Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is seeking an experienced Staff Software Engineer (T05) who blends deep technical expertise with a proven leadership ability to become part of the Waimea Ground Segment team. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, capable of driving technical vision and executing complex software projects. With a solid grasp of industry-standard programming languages, architectures, and development frameworks, the ideal candidate will excel in designing scalable solutions and guiding teams to deliver innovative products. This role demands strong decision-making, mentorship, and the ability to collaborate across diverse teams to align technical strategy with business objectives. This position is located onsite in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Drive architecture, design, and development of software for the Waimea Ground Segment.

  • Lead and mentor a small, agile engineering team.

  • Ensure integration of software with hardware, systems, and operations teams.

  • Conduct code reviews, enforce coding standards, and perform static analysis.

  • Manage unit and integration testing, continuous integration pipelines, and release processes.

  • Participate in risk assessment, architecture reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Represent the Waimea Ground Segment to clients and stakeholders, providing technical guidance and status updates.

  • Respond to incidents, troubleshoot issues, and conduct post‑event reviews.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 12 years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s degree; 10 years of relevant experience with Master's degree; 8 years of relevant experience with PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Active SSBI required at the time of application, and the ability to obtain SCI prior to start
  • Experience with JAVA and C++
  • Experience in software object-oriented design
  • Experience in software unit testing
  • Experience in Kubernetes, Docker, and Containerization
  • Experience with software development on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Digital Signal Data Processing expertise
  • Satellite and payload simulator experience
  • REST architecture knowledge
  • Micro‑service architecture and object‑oriented design experience
  • Software system integration, testing, and deployment experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $171,000.00 - $256,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
