Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) is seeking an innovative Principal Software Engineer (T03) or Senior Principal Software Engineer (T04) who excels in building robust, scalable applications to become part of the Waimea Ground Segment team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced proficiency in Java and C++, a strong command of object-oriented design principles, and a keen ability to architect and implement complex software solutions. This role involves working on challenging projects, contributing to system integration and performance optimization, and mentoring junior team members while collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in our software development processes. This position is located onsite in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, test, and deploy high-quality software applications using Java and C++.
  • Design and implement efficient, reusable, and scalable code following object-oriented principles.
  • Participate in the software development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design innovative solutions and solve complex technical challenges.
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior developers.
  • Engage in performance optimization, debugging, and troubleshooting to enhance application stability.
  • Contribute to architectural and design discussions, ensuring that solutions align with business objectives and technical requirements.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Principal Software Engineer (T03): 5 years of relevant experience with Bachelor's degree; 3 years with Master's degree; 1 year with PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Senior Principal Software Engineer (T04): 8 years of relevant experience with Bachelor's degree; 6 years with Master's degree; 4 years with PhD; an additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Active SSBI required at the time of application, and the ability to obtain SCI prior to start
  • Experience with JAVA and C++
  • Experience in software object-oriented design
  • Experience in software unit testing
  • Experience in Kubernetes, Docker, and Containerization
  • Experience with software development on Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Digital Signal Data Processing
  • Experience with Satellite and Payload Simulators
  • Experience with REST architecture
  • Experience in micro-service architecture and object orientated design.
  • Experience with software system integration, testing, and deployment

Primary Level Salary Range: $110,300.00 - $165,500.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $137,400.00 - $206,000.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
