ROLE SUMMARY

  • Primary legal support for Chief AI & Analytics Officer and other SVP-level ELT+1 members of Lidia Fonseca’s Digital & Technology (D&T) Leadership Team; legal representative on enterprise AI Council.

  • Primary legal support for Andrew Baum’s Business Innovation LT, including SVP, Strategy & Consulting, SVP, WWBD, and other ELT+1 colleagues (Commercial Strategy & Innovation TA Leads, Portfolio Data Analytics Lead), on non-transactional matters.

  • Lead Pfizer legal team responsible for counseling on Pfizer’s adoption and utilization of AI and other digital tools and technology; lead cross-functional Legal Division community of practice on digital legal matters, including as Co-Chair of division-wide Digital Legal Council.

  • Support development and implementation of Strategic Transactions & Digital Legal (ST&D) team organization strategy, including managing $15M ST&D budget process, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources to key ST&D priorities, driving focus and simplification and developing/implementing effective legal support models.

  • VP, Strategy, Innovation and Digital, must be an innovative thinker with an enterprise mindset who can successfully navigate complex organizations and work cross-functionally to deliver solutions.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Digital & Technology Legal Support: Provide primary legal support for Chief AI & Analytics Officer and other ELT+1 leaders within Digital & Technology organization with responsibility for implementing AI/other tech solutions across the Pfizer enterprise, including the R&D, Commercial and PGS organizations; identify external issues, trends, landscape and emerging issues applicable to Digital & Technology activities (e.g., agentic AI, digital health initiatives) and partner with ELT+1 clients to anticipate issues, develop mitigation strategies, and influence the strategic direction of Digital & Technology organization and its activities.

  • Business Innovation Legal Support: Provide primary legal support for Andrew Baum’s Business Innovation LT members, including SVP, Strategy & Consulting, SVP, WWBD, and other ELT+1 colleagues including Commercial Strategy & Innovation TA Leads and Portfolio Data Analytics Lead, on non-transactional matters; identify external issues, trends, landscape and emerging issues applicable to Business Innovation activities (e.g., efforts to source innovation from China and the use of AI to power competitive intelligence, business analytics, search and evaluation efforts and other BI activities) and partner with ELT+1 clients to anticipate issues, develop mitigation strategies, and influence the strategic direction of the Business Innovation organization and its activities.

  • Lead and Support Digital/AI Projects: Represent Legal Division on enterprise-wide AI Council (co-chaired by Chief AI & Analytics and Chief Information Security Officers and composed of ELT+1 representatives of R&D, CMO, PGS and other teams); lead legal team responsible for supporting digital/AI initiatives; assess stakeholder dynamics and competing business needs to drive prioritization and make strategic decisions about task sequencing and resource allocation for maximum impact; drive development of consistent, principle-based, forward-looking legal advice on the risks presented by AI and other digital tools and technology; partner with Compliance, BU/Division counsel and other Legal Division SMEs to define roles and responsibilities and ensure appropriate support model is in place to support Pfizer’s ongoing technology transformation.

  • Collaborate and Build AI/Digital Legal Community: As Co-Chair of division-wide Digital Legal Council, grow Legal Division knowledge of digital legal issues and ability to identify and mitigate risks; foster a community of practice on digital, AI, and related legal matters; ensure upskilling of Legal Division colleagues responsible for supporting digital/AI initiatives, including growing Legal Division colleagues’ knowledge of digital legal issues, ability to “issue spot” and mitigate risk; build consensus on risk tolerance related to digital/AI risks within Legal Division, including positions on emerging issues.

  • Drive ST&D Team Strategy & Resource Allocation: Manage ST&D budget process (~$15M) and sub team budget (~$1.5M); lead development and implementation of ST&D team strategy, including facilitate prioritization by understanding business needs and key drivers, driving focus on key ST&D priorities, eliminating roadblocks, ensuring appropriate allocation of resources and developing and implementing effective legal support models for ST&D matters; lead process innovation, knowledge management and information management efforts; partner with teams across Legal Division to ensure consistent approaches/tools across similar categories of work.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Licensed to practice law, with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Legal Expertise: Significant and broad experience advising senior leaders on complex, strategic matters impacting the Pfizer enterprise, with strong analytical skills and ability to apply changes in the external legal environment to Pfizer’s business; experience supporting Digital & Technology and/or Business Innovation organizations (including CSI, S&C, PDA and WWBD).

  • Client/Stakeholder Engagement: Proven track record of strategic thinking and expert navigation of the matrix; extensive experience and deep understanding of stakeholder dynamics and decision authority; demonstrated ability to navigate complex landscapes and develop appropriate legal support models.

  • Leadership & Team Management: Proven track record in managing and developing colleagues, setting goals, delivering results within deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and supporting growth within a matrixed environment; demonstrated ability to influence, build accountability, drive/lead team through change and address challenges constructively, including by communicating/escalating critical business issues appropriately; ability to lead cross-functional teams on complex projects.

  • Collaboration: Experience partnering with Compliance and other counterparts and SMEs, cultivating strong peer and client relationships, and successfully influencing Pfizer leadership and fellow Legal Division colleagues in a fast-paced business climate.

  • Pfizer & Legal Division Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Pfizer’s structure, culture, policies, and Legal Division practice areas supporting AI/digital projects and transactional matters.

  • Decision Making: Experienced decision maker who displays exceptional judgment and creativity in addressing issues with the highest complexity with potential BU/Division or enterprise-impact; demonstrated ability to make decisions based on incomplete information and to take innovative or non-traditional approaches in solving problems, including through the use of advanced technological or digital solutions.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $256,100.00 to $426,800.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 30.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
