This position is a VM/Hypervisor Expert role on the Compute & Cloud Services Engineering organization (CCSE). CCSE is responsible for building and operating software that supports HPE server hardware. We maintain a collection of system management products that we either operate as a SaaS or license to our 
customers. We’re part of the Compute business unit which is responsible for selling and supporting server hardware.

Job Description
The VM/Hypervisor Expert is a role for a moderately experienced engineer that can work independently with mentors and other technical experts. They need to be skilled at managing and configuring hypervisors, building and automating virtual machines, and helping accelerate how other teams use these tools. They 
also need to be able to learn an expanded skillset over time including integrating on-premise and cloud VMs into a large build pipeline, designing test automations that leverage ephemeral/immutable VMs, and working with IaaS tools (Terraform) in AWS and in on-prem datacenters.


Responsibilities specific to this role include:

  • Deploying, configuring, automating, and monitoring several hypervisor solutions that will be used for development and product validation. (HPE VME, VMWare vCenter, Nutanix AHV, and Hyper-V)
  • Integrating and automating product testing on a matrix of hypervisor/VM products and versions
  • Participate in on-call support as part of a rotational schedule


Required Skills

  • Typically 4-7 years experience
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or closely related quantitative discipline, or comparable work experience
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Experience managing all aspects of hypervisor platforms including installation, operation, performance, and availability
  • Experience automating deployments in AWS and on-prem, automating a server bring-up including power-on, OS installation, OS configuration, applications installation
  • General knowledge of basic IT functions like monitoring, alerting, single sign-on, basic networking, firewalls, etc.
  • Production experience with Linux
  • Experience building, testing, packaging, and shipping production software in an end-to-end build pipeline
  • Git

  • Experience building solutions in AWS on EC2 and EC2 Metal
  • Github Actions
  • Packer
  • Vagrant
  • ArgoCD
  • Experience deploying, managing, and using Kubernetes (not EKS)
  • Experience building Docker containers
  • Python or Go experience
  • Experience with health and performance monitoring with tools like Prometheus and Grafana
  • Experience navigating the organizational dynamics and complexities of large enterprises

Our Compute Ops Management (COM) SaaS product helps admins get their hardware up-and-running quickly while keeping them patched and uniformly configured. USD Annual Salary: $123,500.00 - $234,500.00
