Vehicle Damage Manager

A claims manager oversees the claims process, ensuring timely and efficient settlement while managing a team of adjusters and examiners. Key duties include developing and enforcing claims policies, verifying claim validity, investigating potential fraud, and handling complex or litigated claims. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.  

Job summary

  • Manages the day-to-day operations of a claims department to ensure all claims are processed, reviewed, and settled efficiently and accurately. 
  • Works to prevent and detect insurance fraud and falsified documents. 
  • Interacts with adjusters and motor carriers to obtain claim settlements. 

Key responsibilities

  • Team management: 

Supervises and mentors claims staff, providing training and support, and addressing performance issues. 

  • Policy and procedure: 

Develops, implements, and enforces policies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. 

  • Claims analysis: 

Reviews and analyzes data to ensure claims are valid and settlements are fair, making decisions on whether to authorize payments. 

  • Problem-solving: 

Addresses customer complaints and inquiries and handles complex or contentious issues. 

  • Reporting: 

Communicates with senior management, providing reports and advice on claims-related matters. 

Skills and qualifications

  • Proficiency in relevant software, such as the Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening. 
  • Detail-oriented and organized with strong follow-up skills. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently. 
  • Knowledge of claims management concepts, procedures, and relevant regulations. 
  • Commercial claims handling of large truck losses
  • Experience in claims adjudication or insurance is often required, with specific experience in the relevant industry (auto) also necessary. 

Education

  • College degree preferred but industry experience is acceptable for this role
  • 5-10 years of claims experience in the insurance industry

Compensation:

Disclosure required under applicable law in California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, New Jersey, and Washington states: The expected salary range for this position is $80,000-$100,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate’s skills, experience and working location, as well as the specific position’s business line, scope and level. HUB International is proud to offer comprehensive benefit and total compensation packages: health/dental/vision/life/disability insurance, FSA, HSA and 401(k) accounts, paid-time-off benefits such as vacation, sick, and personal days, and eligible bonuses, equity and commissions for some positions.
