The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking applications for a full-time faculty member whose duties will include:

Director in the College’s Dental External Clinics Nexton and West Ashley Medical Pavillion (WAMP). This clinical position provides leadership oversight of dental faculty and staff working in these practices. The position will have the opportunity to participate as a clinician in the faculty practice one day per week. Reporting in this administrative capacity to the Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs, the Director will ensure the optimal functioning of the practices and will work with college leadership to expand and improve care provided. Experience with personnel management of dental providers, thorough comprehension of financial operations of a dental practice and experience with dental patient software is required.

Position Summary

The James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina is seeking applications for a full time faculty member whose duties will include:

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must hold a DDS or DMD degree and have a license or be eligible for licensure to practice dentistry in South Carolina.  Ideal candidates will possess a passion for providing exceptional patient care and leadership to faculty providers and staff through a team-based and collegial dental faculty practice environment. Leadership experience in a large group practice setting is highly desirable. Candidate must have the ability to effectively work with others within the school and University to achieve organizational goals.  Experience in educational setting and/or clinical practice setting expected, with preference given to those with practice management experience.  The candidate should provide evidence of demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relationships, including administrative staff, clinical staff and faculty providers, as well as individuals outside of the organization.  Salary and rank will be commensurate with academic and clinical experience. 

The Director will collaborate with the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs to establish and achieve staffing, financial and patient goals, including:  

  • Oversight of the needs of dental faculty practice providers to create a thriving faculty and staff work environment to benefit patients.
  • Off-Campus Clinics faculty development, performance and production goal setting / expectations.
  • Active participation and contribution to practice quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensuring successful operational performance including high level of customer service, quality dental care, financial sustainability, and excellent clinical standards of care.
  • Overseeing and monitoring patient care quality performance standards while ensuring provider compliance and training in alignment with University, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assisting with the annual budget setting process to achieve long-term sustainability of the faculty practice.
  • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean/Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs
