The Internships at this site will run on a 10-week program schedule from June 2, 2026 – August 7, 2026. This is a paid, full-time-hourly (40 hours/week) position at the AstraZeneca manufacturing facility located at 636 Research Ct, Frederick, MD 21703.
Over the course of the summer, each intern will perform department specific day-to-day activities as assigned by their Supervisor. Each intern will also be assigned a key project of which they will be responsible for leading, executing and reporting out on to Site Leadership and staff. Internship Mentors will guide and coach interns throughout the summer. Interns also participate in various professional development activities to gain a broad understanding of all functions at the Frederick, MD site and the AstraZeneca enterprise.
Roles at Frederick can fall under the following departments:
Facilities & Site Operations Engineering
Lead site operations projects such engineering drawing with CAD, architectural remodeling, and preventive maintenance, and spare part development
Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE)
Engage is site-wide projects such as human performance assessment trend analysis, hazardous material identification, SHE communications plans, and investigation of COF impact on manufacturing floors.
Manufacturing Operations
Analyze and report on data inputs to drive improvements, Support of Work Balancing Operations, and support ongoing department projects for site continuous improvement initiatives and overall process optimizations.
Manufacturing Science & Technology
Execute lab and process tasks such as solution preparation, perform basic measurements, and run simple unit operations (e.g., filtration or chromatography) while collecting and analyzing process data using Excel to identify trends and maintain clear records.
Operational Excellence
Collect, analyze and track key performance metrics to ensure project goals are achieved by identifying root causes and collaborating sitewide to implement and sustain improvements.
Project Management
Supply Chain
Engage in various projects such as Inventory optimization, capacity modeling, digital tool implementation, and waste reduction in a lean manufacturing environment
Data Science
Create machine learning, AI models from a wide variety of manufacturing data to visualize in dashboards and reports
Quality Laboratory
Perform microbiological testing using laboratory skills such as pipetting and aseptic technique and analyze data to report on microbial hold time testing
Quality Systems Analysis
Support various projects such as implementation of Electronic Lab notebooks, validation of lab systems for upgrade, system automation, and design data analytics applications/dashboards.
Quality Assurance
Utilize document management system and implement electronic batch release documentation process.
Internal Site Communications and People Services
Lead content creation and distribution of site communications, engage in HR process coordination supporting onboarding logistics materials, and support employee engagement initiatives.
Individual roles' requirements vary, and the below are applicable to all:

Studying to complete a Bachelor’s degree related to any of the above roles, such as engineering (mechanical, bio[medical], chemical, industrial, environmental), biology, chemistry, computer science, statistics, business administration, environmental science, communications, or a related field.
Candidates must have an expected graduation date set for after August 2026.
Basic understanding of technical areas related to functional area of each internship position.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills are essential.
Candidates must adhere to the June 1, 2026 start date.

Must be comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.

The hourly pay rate for these roles is $28/hr
