Job Summary: Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) will operate within the Service located at the VA Medical Center/Health Care System (VAMC/HCS) with several Community Based Outpatient Clinics. This position is a Transportation Coordinator at the facility level and acts as primary contact to Veterans for transportation needs.

Major Duties:

  • Duties include, but not limited to: Direct patient contact situations in the outpatient Veteran Transportation Service. Program imposes on the incumbent a greater responsibility for counseling staff, coordinating with clinical staff members and making proper recommendations to build strong team collaboration, effectiveness and moral. Incumbent serves as liaison to facilitate physicians, nursing personnel, social workers, residents and interns along with the Patient Representative/Advocate in addition to beneficiaries and their representatives. Meets with other service lines to help facilitate programs and processing of Veteran Transportation Service workload. Provides support to the clinical services in all administrative operations associated with the processing of Veteran Transportation Service Program patients scheduled for transportation, treatment, and clinic visits. Interact with Veterans and their families and other transportation providers to resolve transportation problems. Informs staff on the processes for scheduling, standard preparations, and scheduling arrangements for procedures. Communicates with others locally and nationally, to seek answers to transportation issues. Will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. Is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes. Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 11/14/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS -6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-05 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Uses initiative and works independently within the framework established by the Supervisor in carrying out recurring assignments such as scheduling appointments and admissions, data tracking and data collection duties in support to the Veterans Transportation Service operations. Thorough knowledge to make sound and logical decisions, identifying and utilizing appropriate available resources. Knowledge of VA laws, regulations, directives, policies, procedures, performance measures and guidelines relating to VA medical benefits administration. Must demonstrate personal mastery of interpersonal skills, including the ability to meet and deal effectively with a wide variety of staff from many educational and skill levels, for communicating clear instructions and interpretations. Must demonstrate thorough knowledge of structure of electronic medical records.
