Toolmaker – Fabrication and Machine Assembly

Sensata’s Mechanization Team is currently seeking a Toolmaker/Machine Assembler to work in our department that builds custom-engineered equipment used for R&D and/or Manufacturing. This position will be responsible for machining parts from drawings as well as assembling the specialized equipment.

General Responsibilities
• Collaborates with engineers, designers, and clients to conceptualize models and equipment.
• Uses hand tools and techniques to create and finish models with high precision.
• Assembles parts and components to build complete models and equipment, ensuring all parts fit and function correctly.
• Conducts tests to verify the performance and functionality of models and equipment.
• Makes necessary adjustments and refinements to models and equipment based on testing results and feedback.
• Maintains tools and equipment used in the model-making process to ensure they remain in good working condition.
• Diagnoses and repairs any issues with models and equipment, including replacing worn or damaged parts.
• Continuously improves skills and knowledge in model-making and equipment fabrication techniques.

• Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands
• Strong organization, planning and time management skills to achieve results
• Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)

Additional Job Description

  • Build new equipment from complicated design drawings, integrating fabricated parts as well as tooling and purchased devices

  • Fabricate new parts from stock materials or modify existing parts from drawings by using conventional machine shop equipment such as Vertical Millers (Prototrak control), Lathes, and Surface grinders.

Additional Job Experience / Qualifications

  • A high school degree or equivalent is required

  • Have good oral and written communication skills. 

  • This candidate should have 5+ yrs relevant experience

  • Have skills to read and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications and shop orders.

  • Have a strong mechanical background and solid diagnostic skills.

  • Must have an in-depth knowledge of tool room equipment and its safe operation.

  • Must be experienced with precision measuring instruments (Micrometers, Calipers, etc.).

  • Have skills to determine setup, production methods, and sequence of operations

  • Have pneumatics experience with typical machine control systems including valves, regulators, actuators, etc.

  • Ability to work safely in a hazardous environment

  • Must have their own basic machinist and assembly hand tools.

  • Have the ability and flexibility to work additional hours and/or days as required.

  • Basic computer skills to support: email communication, time entry systems; online trainings; etc

  • Applicable Trade School experience is a plus

  • Tool and die-making is a plus

  • Hydraulics and high-pressure pneumatics experience is a plus

  • CNC machining experience is a plus

  • Experience with viewing CAD documentation is a plus

Hourly Base Pay Range:

$29.60 - $40.70
