Minimum Requirements:

Four years of related experience in strength and conditioning training with collegiate or professional athletes. Certification as a strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS) or Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC). CPR and First Aid Certification.

Position Description:

The University of Louisville Athletic Department is seeking a highly motivated Assistant Strength & Performance Specialist to support athletic development within the Kueber Weight Room and practice environments. The ideal candidate will provide direct assistance during strength training sessions, conditioning work, practice preparation, and day-to-day athlete support. In addition, this individual will help integrate sport science technology into training environments by assisting with performance monitoring, tracking key metrics, and supporting athlete readiness assessments. This entry-level position is designed to bridge strength & conditioning responsibilities with applied sport science initiatives. The successful candidate will ensure consistent execution of training session logistics, equipment readiness, and integrated performance monitoring while working collaboratively with coaches, athletic trainers, and members of the Health & Performance team. Length of assignment up to but not to exceed 6 months.

Qualified candidates would have a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength & Conditioning, Sport Science, or a related field, and prior experience in a collegiate or competitive athletic performance environment (internship or equivalent acceptable).​

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Strength Training & Athletic Support

  • Provide hands-on support during team lifting sessions and conditioning activities.

  • Assist with pre-practice and pre-game physical preparation, including setup, warm-ups, transition logistics, and recovery station support.

  • Maintain professionalism and safe lifting technique standards while reinforcing S&C programming objectives.

  • Support daily athlete interactions to reinforce training intent and readiness expectations.

Operational Responsibilities in the Weight Room

  • Uphold facility standards, including equipment setup, cleanliness, organization, and proactive maintenance.

  • Assist with equipment rotation, technology setup, and workflow improvements within the Kueber Weight Room.

  • Help manage training inventories, session logistics, and daily safety inspections.

Sport Science Integration

  • Assist in data collection and athlete monitoring using Kinexon, Catapult, Hawkins Force Plates, Output, and related technologies.

  • Conduct and support DARI assessments for movement evaluation and biomechanical tracking.

  • Aid strength coaches in interpreting and monitoring feedback to support daily training adjustments.

  • Transfer data findings to the Sport Science Coordinator to support real-time programming decisions.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with Strength & Conditioning staff, Sport Science, Athletic Training, Nutrition, and other members of the integrated H&P team.

  • Assist with quick-turn performance insights and operational recommendations during training sessions.

  • Support communication of athlete readiness, workload trends, or areas of focus to relevant performance staff.

Professional Development & Other Duties

  • Remain current with strength training best practices, technology trends, and applied sport science solutions.

  • Participate in meetings, workshops, and professional growth opportunities as assigned.

  • Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Director of Sports Performance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Applied experience with athlete monitoring technologies and motion assessment tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to support team training environments.

  • Knowledge of performance metrics, workload monitoring, and training adaptation principles.

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
