At Dyson we are encouraged to think differently, challenge convention and be unafraid to make mistakes. We’re creative, collaborative, practical and enthusiastic.
As an NPI Robotics Technician, you'll help turn inventive concepts into robust early prototypes and functional demo rigs that drive the future of robotics at Dyson. You'll work embedded within an design engineering squad, supporting rapid design and iteration, and ensuring our lab environment remains a catalyst for innovation.
Prototyping & Build
Work hands-on to construct, modify, and assemble mechanical and electromechanical prototype rigs and sub-assemblies.
Support engineers by taking early concepts off the page and into practical, working demonstrators.
Safely machine, 3D print, wire, and finish prototype parts, drawing on your skills in mechanical, electrical, and software assembly.
Suggest practical prototype improvements based on build experience and testing feedback.
Lab & Workshop Management
Maintain, calibrate, and set up shared robotics lab equipment
Maintain high workshop standards, supporting safety, 5S, audits, and continuous improvement.
Troubleshoot common lab issues and coach team members on safe/effective usage.
Coordinate with suppliers and service providers for parts, stocked materials, and equipment servicing
Support & Collaboration
Assist in design iteration using CAD tools (e.g., NX)—edit models, print simple parts, support drawings and documentation.
Run simple test rigs and collect engineering data; share observations and practical insights for iterative improvement.
Contribute to internal training, documentation, and sharing of new capability, process, or tool developments.
Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electronics, or a closely related field.
Proven experience in hands-on prototyping, workshop/lab management, or practical engineering environments.
Proficient using basic CAD tools (e.g., Siemens NX), with ability to print or fabricate simple parts.
Experience with 3D printing, CNC machining.
Comfortable with mechanical assembly, soldering/wiring, or entry-level electronics integration.
Organised, methodical, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and finishing tasks.
Strong spoken and written English; clear communicator and approachable team player.
Experience running test rigs, interpreting data, and reporting findings.
Familiarity with programming or instrument control (e.g., Labview, Arduino, Excel VBA).
Basic statistical knowledge for experiment analysis (e.g., MSA, GR&R).
Awareness of workplace safety and lab best practices.
