Lloyd’s are recruiting for a Technical Lead Actuary – Syndicate Capital. You will lead the oversight and development of syndicate capital models at Lloyd’s through expert technical review, strategic innovation, and cross-functional collaboration, ensuring regulatory compliance, market influence, and the advancement of actuarial excellence.

Principal Accountabilities

Lead  the  technical  review  and  challenge  of  syndicate  capital  models,  including  annual
submissions,  deep  dives,  and  major  model  changes,  to  ensure  robustness  and  regulatory
compliance.

Act  as  a  decision-maker in  the  capital  approval  process  by  peer  reviewing  technical  papers
and supporting the Head of Capital Oversight and Chief Actuary in oversight activities.

Provide subject matter expertise on complex capital modelling issues, offering guidance to
internal teams and contributing to the development of best practices.

Mentor  and  develop junior  actuaries,  promoting  technical  excellence and  professional  growth
within the team.

Collaborate with internal functions such as Underwriting, Exposure Management, and
Reserving to ensure aligned and effective oversight.

Engage  with  senior  stakeholders,  including  internal  committees,  syndicates,  and  regulators
(e.g., PRA), to communicate findings and respond to challenges.

Influence market behaviour and understanding through external communications, feedback, and
presentations on capital-related matters.

Contribute to the innovation and evolution of capital setting methodologies, particularly for
new market entrants and in support of Lloyd’s strategic objectives.

Lead  or  support  projects  aimed  at  enhancing capital  oversight  processes  and  methodologies,
applying strong project management principles

Skills Knowledge and Experience

Extensive experience in non-life insurance, with a strong focus on capital modelling and exposure
to related areas such as reserving.

Proven track record of working within the Lloyd’s or London Market environment.

Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex actuarial projects to completion.

Experience in presenting technical findings and strategic recommendations to senior
management and external stakeholders, including regulators.

Capital Modelling Expertise: In-depth knowledge of non-life capital modelling techniques, including
model validation, parameterisation, and scenario testing, ideally within  the Lloyd’s or London
Market context.

Regulatory Frameworks: understanding of Solvency II/UK, Lloyd’s Capital Guidance, and
broader regulatory capital requirements.

Market  Dynamics:  Awareness  of  the  Lloyd’s  market  structure,  syndicate  operations,  and  the
strategic role of capital oversight in market stability.


Analytical Tools & Techniques: Familiarity with actuarial modelling platforms (e.g., Igloo,
ReMetrica, Tyche) and data analysis tools used in capital modelling.


Governance & Oversight: Understanding internal governance processes, risk management
frameworks, and the role of actuarial input in regulatory decision-making.

Communication  of  Technical  Concepts:  Ability  to  translate  complex technical  findings  into  clear, actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Fully qualified Actuary with FIA status (or equivalent) from the UK Institute and Faculty of Actuaries
(IFoA).
