We are looking to expand our team with a Tax Assistant Manager. This is a key role within our Tax practice, offering the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, contribute to strategic client relationships, and help shape the future of our Tax Offering on the Isle of Man.


Main responsibilities:

  • Build a rapport with the individual client and developing a clear and detailed understanding of the business and client expectations;

  • Provide intelligent and creative solutions to client tax issues both reactively and proactively and present solutions to increasingly complex technical issues;

  • Implement HMRC approved share plans such as EMI, CSOP, etc and non-approved plans such as Flowering Share arrangements, Growth Share Plans, etc,

  • Responsible for planning and performing tax consultancy assignments specialising in in Employment Taxes, Share Schemes, Global Mobility, Employer Solutions and related;

  • Conduct PAYE reviews on employer compliance matters relating to PAYE and NIC (e.g. P11D's, PSA's, share scheme reporting), tax due diligence on employment taxes, global mobility matters, salary sacrifice arrangements etc.

  • Write high quality tax reports, professionally presented documents, requiring minimal input from directors or partners;

  • A sound awareness and adherence to the firm's risk management processes and procedures;

  • Ensure bills are raised and costs are collected on a timely basis and manage work in progress to ensure recoverability targets can be met;

  • Demonstrate sound technical knowledge to supervise relevant areas of work and will be seen as a reference point on particular technical issues;

  • Work effectively with all members of the team, building the confidence and respect of peers and subordinates;

  • Demonstrate a clear appetite for self-development through the appraisal and personal development plan processes, reviewing work afterward for learning points; and

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the full range of the firm's products, services and capabilities and seeks to participate in business development activities and contributes to sales pitches, for own team as well as the wider firm.

Skills and attributes:

  • ATT/ACA/ACCA or CTA qualified;

  • minimum 3/4 years’ post qualification experience of working in a tax department of a larger firm;

  • strong technical knowledge and proven ability to identify opportunities for clients;

  • capable of working on your own initiative;

  • ability to build trusted relationships with clients and the team;

  • managerial skills with the ability to manage compliance process and compliance staff;

  • strong interpersonal skills are essential together with proven people development skills to support the development of the more junior staff; and

  •  ambitious and want to pursue a career in practice.
