This role is responsible for client/shareholder tax-related tasks. This may include balancing and reconciling disbursements, completing monthly disbursement reconciliations, ensuring timely submission of tax remittances, tax reporting and maintaining the relevant documentation.
This role is hybrid (2 - 3 days/week in the office) - based in Toronto, ON.
Key Accountabilities:
Balance client dividend/interest payments and confirm year-to-date totals.
Consult internally to ensure tax adjustment accuracy.
Complete monthly reconciliation of disbursements.
Submit payments to CRA within established deadlines.
Forward IRS tax remittances within established deadlines.
Maintain client tax files, following up on necessary documentation.
Participate in tax planning meetings.
Perform user testing of the tax system and submit change requests to the Tax Manager upon identifying problems.
Trigger and balance tax forms, ensuring correct data and format.
Verify minimum reporting, gross-ups, and other specifications on reports/forms/tapes, and confirm correct tax form usage.
Coordinate the production of manual or other tax forms.
Coordinate regulatory annual mailings.
Respond promptly to all correspondence.
Provide management reporting, as required.
Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Must Have(s):
College diploma or university degree in business, finance or accounting, or equivalent experience.
1 to 3 years experience in a similar role.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office & Google Suite required
Communication: Good written, verbal and listening skills.
Adaptable: Flexibility and willingness to work simultaneously on a wide range of tasks and projects and ability to prioritize.
Confidentiality: Show discretion and ability to handle confidential issues.
Independent worker: High level of self-motivation and at ease working independently when necessary.
Organization & Detail Oriented: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Teamwork: Works well in a team environment, actively contributes to the success of the group
Working under pressure: Poised, works well under pressure and accomplishing short- and long-term deadlines with a heavy workload.
Nice Have(s):
Knowledge of Tax software, CCH software, and Tax Prep software packages (Asset)
Financial services industry experience, an asset
