Rolls-Royce are looking for a people with a strong background in Systems Engineering & Integration to join the team in Derby.

Our Systems Engineering & Integration engineers provide oversight to ensure our products meet customer, business and regulatory needs. We’re looking for motivated Systems Engineers, passionate about Systems Thinking and Design Configuration to provide enabling support to the Design Teams. The role includes supporting the programme from problem definition through to  the integration of products & systems and establishing fit for purpose verification strategies to ensure adequate solutions. The SE&I engineer is accountable for controlling and managing design data.

This is an integration role where the individual will work to enable all engineering teams through coaching and support to successfully develop robust, verified engineering solutions against robust validated business requirements.

What you’ll be doing:

As a Systems Engineer supporting a large Nuclear Infrastructure Programme, your role will incorporate capability development and technical delivery accountabilities, which are likely to include:

Technical

  • Developing and influencing the Systems Engineering, Requirements Management and Verification approach across the programme, identifying and incorporating industry best practice, whilst ensuring integration with the wider RRSL processes and toolsets.
  • Embedding and delivering the Systems Engineering approach through coaching and governing of the adherence to methodologies as communicated through the appropriate Management Plans.

SE Deployment & Compliance Management

  • Coaching the Engineering Teams in the design of systems using Systems Engineering principals including the use of Robust Design tools & techniques to achieve optimum solutions at product and sub-system level.
  • Establish / manage appropriate (Requirements, Design Rationale Evidence, Design Definition and Verification Information) R-E-D-V structure that joins information across all areas involved (Customer, Business, System, Sub-System and Component) for the project.
  • Be the SE focal point for a specific project, delivering technical coaching and oversight to engineers working with requirements to ensure consistency and quality, ensuring sufficient rigor it put into requirements validation and verification, driving the right behaviours within the project.
  • Driving the development of product verification strategies, structured verification plans and Product Development Plans, defining and delivering robust certification and qualification strategies and ensuring R-E-D-V health data reports from Validation and Verification activities are used to drive the engineering programme schedule and to remove technical risk.

Configuration, Data & Controls

  • Apply understanding of Facility Design and the wider Nuclear product operation, product systems, sub-systems and interactions. Integrate and manage interfaces.
  • Planning and management of product change, design technical approval and technical investigations.
  • Manage the creation of substantiation evidence, clearance/acceptance documentation that meets the project demands.
  • Define configuration hardware requirements to satisfy verification activities.

People

  • Reporting clearly and succinctly on System progress and data metrics (requirements, assumptions, risk).
  • Working with and co-ordinating extended (i.e. not necessarily co-located) multi-disciplinary teams.

There is a team of Systems Engineers supporting in all areas and therefore the above accountabilities may be adapted depending on candidate knowledge and experience.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree or master’s in engineering or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrable experience in eliciting and managing requirements in complex engineering programmes.
  • Strong technical knowledge in design methodologies and concept down-selection.
  • Familiarity of ISO 15288 and its application to engineering complex problems.
  • Good working knowledge of utilising IBM Rational DOORs for requirements management.
  • Experience of leading strategic initiatives, or evidence of an aptitude towards strategic thinking.
  • Good inter-personal and presentation skills. Ability to communicate with and influence all levels and across disciplines.

Non-essential, but desirable experience

  • Systems Engineering applied in the Nuclear Industry, Infrastructure or other highly regulated environments.
  • Experience with using Model-Based System Engineering Tools and Methods, preferably in Cameo Systems Modeller.
  • Technical management in projects requiring cross-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Chartered Engineer and/or membership of a relevant professional body.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place.
