The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", IT Department has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Systems Engineer 3 to work in Miami.

The Systems Engineer will work closely with cardiology departments, IT, and medical staff to ensure the seamless operation of the cardiology-specific software, hardware, and infrastructure, including Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS), Cardiovascular Information Systems (CVIS), and working with our IT counterparts with our electronic health record system. The ideal candidate should have experience in healthcare technology, a deep understanding of cardiology workflows, and expertise in integrating medical devices and imaging systems into enterprise systems.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Leads full lifecycle delivery of software development. Evaluates, designs, and tests clinical applications of information systems for implementations and upgrades.

  • Works with managers, senior administrators, and other leaders to produce required data, identify project tasks, and appropriate time estimates.

  • Develops, designs, evaluates, and monitors common data processing methods and procedures, and identifies opportunities for process improvements for existing and new interfaces.

  • Builds and enforces simulation exercises, reviews design and code for quality control, and maintains procedures to ensure utmost performance.

  • Serves as a technical expert in multiple highly specialized areas of applications systems analysis and programming.

  • Designs and implements viable solutions to technical challenges and assists support staff in resolving issues.

  • Leads problem-solving to troubleshoot and direct resolution of production issues.

  • Ensures data integrity with each interface and establishes protocols to resolve data accuracy and transmission issues.

  • Ensures that all interfaces are using appropriate standards and record transaction formats.

  • Documents and implements integration environment modifications, in accordance with best practices in the industry.

  • Serves as software technical expert and primary resource for clinical applications to support end-users, including vendors and clinicians.

  • Advises and works with other IT personnel in maintaining efficiency of corporate applications and operating systems.

  • Maintains proficiency and certification with the integration technologies required and the application systems assigned.

  • Maintains reliable performance of the integration environment and overall integration engine(s).

  • Monitors the runtime cycle(s) of live interfaces and resolves downtime issues.

  • Performs analysis to test, develop, modify, and adapt application systems, hardware configurations, and interface programs.

  • Provides problem-solving expertise to troubleshoot and resolve production issues.

  • Leads report generation for presentation to senior management.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. 

Department Specific Functions:

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Systems Engineer to support the integration, development, and optimization of the cardiology applications/systems within our healthcare organization.

As a Systems Engineer (3) – you will report to the Manager and will be responsible for:

  • Providing oversight and leadership to level II and I system engineers

  • Initiating the implementation, build, and modification of the applications

  • Collaborating with key stakeholders, end-users, and application team members to optimize the application’s configuration, function, and access

  • Supporting junior staff members in day-to-day operations and resolving application issues

  • Provide oversight in the development, implementation/build, test, and maintenance of cardiology systems.  This includes new capabilities and routine upgrades. 

  • Develops, designs, evaluates, and monitors common data processing methods and procedures.

  • Identifies opportunities for process improvements for existing and new interfaces.

  • Ensures data integrity with each interface and establishes protocols to resolve data accuracy and transmission issues. Ensures that all interfaces are using appropriate standards and record transaction formats.

  • Ensure compatibility and integration of cardiology systems with other healthcare applications (ie RIS, HIS, EHR) and medical devices (ie EKG, Echo, Stress Testing, Pacemakers, etc). 

  • Works with managers, senior administrators, and other leaders to produce required data, identify project tasks, and appropriate time estimates.

  • Leads problem-solving to troubleshoot and direct resolution of production issues.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system architecture, workflows, and troubleshooting guides as needed.

  • Serves as software technical expert and primary resource for clinical applications to support end-users, including vendors and clinicians.

  • Collaborates with clinical staff to understand cardiology workflows and design systems to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Advises and works with other IT personnel in maintaining efficiency of corporate applications and operating systems.

  • Partner with all IT teams when developing streamlined services for customers including but not limited to incidents, requests, and projects.

  • Maintains proficiency and certification with the integration technologies required and the application systems assigned.

  • Leads report generation for presentation to senior management.

  • Maintain regular communication with team members, including participating in weekly project team meetings when assigned/needed

  • Supporting junior staff members in day-to-day operations and resolving application issues

  • Participate in on-call rotations

  • Participate in rounding events for customers to better understanding workflows and issues

  • Attend and participate in applicable committees

  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive team environment

  • Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence in service delivery.  

  • On occasion and depending on the type of project, act as the project manager to help oversee tasks through to completion.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Computer Science preferred.

  • Certified Imaging Informatics Professional preferred

  • Certified PACS Associate (CPA) or Certified PACS System Analyst (CPSA) from PARCA preferred

  • 5-10 years of experience in healthcare IT, with a strong focus on both non-invasive and invasive cardiovascular systems.

  • Previous experience specifically with Phillips and GE and with cardiovascular systems preferred.

  • Familiarity with cardiology workflows, regulatory requirements, integration points with other Epic modules, and patient experiences preferred.

  • Experience with HL7, DICOM, and other healthcare IT standards preferred.

  • Strong understanding of network configurations, servers, storage solutions, and medical imaging technologies preferred. 

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
