Research & Benchmarking: Collect best-practice examples, standards, and reference frameworks for disassembly and repair across relevant industries and competitive products.
Component-Level Disassembly Procedures: Draft illustrated, step-by-step instructions for 2–3 priority modules, including required tools, fastener types, step order, and safety notes.
Design-for-Repair Guidance: Develop step-by-step repair flows for common failure modes, detailing replaceable sub components, recommended tolerances, and retest criteria.
Specification Checklist Creation: Build concise checklists for engineers and suppliers covering fastener choices, modular interfaces, adhesives, tolerances, labeling, and material compatibility.
Visual Assets & Annotation: Produce clear callouts, exploded-view sketches, and simple photo guides suitable for inclusion in CAD review packs and supplier work instructions.
Validation & Supplier Feedback Loop: Pilot the guidance with one internal engineering team and one external supplier, gather feedback, and refine the materials based on practical constraints.
Required Skills and Supervision
Skills Trainee Will Develop: Technical drawing annotation, practical circular-design application, stakeholder facilitation, basic CAD reading, and clear technical writing.
Supervision: Weekly check-ins with the Sustainability Lead; biweekly technical review with a Product Engineer; one supplier-facing session led by Sourcing.
Success Criteria
Completed disassembly and repair guidance approved by engineering and at least one supplier.
Specification checklist reduces disassembly steps or tool types in the pilot by at least one measurable complexity metric.
Handover folder enables another team to replicate the guidance for a third product family.
