The responsibility of the position is the investigation, apprehension, or detention of persons suspected of offenses against any criminal laws of the United States.

Major Duties:

  • If selected for this position as a GS-0083-13 Supervisory Police Officer (Major) your duties may include, but are not limited to the following: As a Supervisory Police Officer (Major), the incumbent serves as a Federal Law Enforcement officer on a federal enclave, which requires knowledge and application of executive police management methods and techniques. Primary responsibility is the management, planning, performance and supervision of the law enforcement personnel, activities, and security within the DP's jurisdiction, Police Operations Branch. The incumbent strives to achieve the greatest operating efficiency and effectiveness. Supervises the subordinated rank of captain and below, and develops, and implements corrective procedures to alleviate identified physical security problems, taking into consideration all internal and external factors when making decisions or recommendations concerning law enforcement to the Chief of Police through the chain of command. Manages investigations using all the available resources. Designated as an essential employee and is always subject to call in the events of an emergency or other condition so justifying. Serves as supervisor over the staff of the assigned Branch. Exercises the full range of supervisory and managerial authority to establish and implement annual and multi-year goals, objectives, and work plans, including organizational continuous improvement and innovation projects, and achieving the greatest operating efficiency and effectiveness and quality assurance.

Qualifications: You qualify at the GS-GS-13 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: 1) managing a police force in providing protection, law enforcement, and crime prevention programs 2) managing police investigations 3) coordinating law enforcement activities with other Federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies 4) managing and supervising, a civilian police force. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
