Job Summary: This announcement is for a Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, GS-0080-14 with the Technical Security Section, Justice Protective Service (JPS), Security and Emergency Planning Staff (SEPS). This position maintains and operates the Department's automated access control system (AEGIS), and alarm system located in the Main Justice Building and other Department buildings. Supervises the security computer based on encryption Land Base Radio Net.

Major Duties:

  • The duties and responsibilities for a Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, GS-0080-14 generally include, but are not limited to, the following: * Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. * Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications and organizational requirements. * Conducts physical security surveys and inspections of Department of Justice and off-site locations to include preoccupation, physical access control systems (PACS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) and open storage areas to determine overall effectiveness of management and to ensure agency-wide compliance. * Supervises the Department's electronic physical security systems located at the RFK and delegated satellite facilities. The systems include PACS, VSS, IDS, and physical security barriers, vehicle barriers and mantrap portals.

Qualifications: To qualify for the position of Supervisory Physical Security Specialist, at GS-0080-14, you must meet the qualification requirements listed below. If you are a current Department of Justice employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. You must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as performing site surveys, inspecting operating security programs for vulnerabilities, efficiency and areas for improvement, and utilize Physical Access Control Systems (PACS), Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS), Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) to maintain physical security systems, and/or Identify, Credential, and Access Management (ICAM) of a Department level program and manage a Department level Personal Identify Verification (PIV) FIPS 201 program.
