Job Summary: You will serve as a SUPERVISORY NUCLEAR ENGINEER or SUPERVISORY HEALTH PHYSICIST in the Radiological Emergency Planning Division, Radiological Control Office of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.

Major Duties:

  • You will plan and coordinate shipyard response to an actual or potential Naval nuclear reactor accident or radiological emergency.
  • You will coordinate with Federal, State and local government agencies to ensure that Shipyard response plans combined with the plans from these agencies provide complete and integrated coverage of necessary emergency response actions.
  • You will develop new or improved techniques for identification of fission products released during a nuclear reactor accident
  • You will develop of a fixed radiological monitoring system to assess radiation exposure to the public after a nuclear reactor accident
  • You will plan and conduct major quarterly radiological emergency drills to evaluate the Shipyard's level of preparedness and periodically conducting other training sessions to train emergency personnel.
  • You will design and coordinate the development, construction, maintenance, and upgrade of radiological emergency support facilities such as emergency control centers, mobile response vans, communication systems, and radiological assessment equipment.
  • You will participate in the preparation of actual responses to inquiries from the news media, the general public, or other sources pertaining to routine radiological aspects of Shipyard work.
  • You will determine organizational and budgetary requirements.

Qualifications: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: applying professional radiological emergency management theories, concepts, principles, and practices to plan, coordinate, and monitor a radiological emergency management program (e.g., exercises, drills, training) associated with nuclear reactor plants, equipment, and components, transportation incidents, or radioactive material to ensure insure optimum safety, efficiency, effectiveness, and economy.
