POSITION SUMMARY

Assist and support Associate Director Statutory & Tax and ATC Audit Manager in all statutory and tax requirement related to the day-to-day activity of the Spanish legal entities, as well as in audit and corporate Income Tax (CIT) planning and execution.

Responsible for direct supervision and support of the statutory team accounting clerks to ensure overall Statutory tasks and goals are completed and met including coaching, training, monitoring and review of work performed.

Ensure guidance and instructions from Associate Director Statutory & Tax and ATC Audit Manager are followed.

Identify and highlight potential tax, statutory and operational risks to the Associate Director Statutory & Tax and ATC Audit Manager as well as train the statutory accounting clerks to identify any issues.

This position will be responsible for general tax compliance (except vat) and the review of accounting records under Spanish GAAP for the Spanish entities, ensuring that all critical tasks are completed within the established deadlines.

CRITICAL TASKS

Job Functions

  • Review and be part of the base tie-out process under Spanish GAAP. Ensure that the P&L accounts are mapped to their correct alternative account and that sufficient supporting documentation is available. To achieve this, the role will involve continuous communication with the Audit Supervisor, the ATC Audit Manager, and the DOFs.

To achieve this, our systems and reports will be used in the most efficient way possible, and all necessary measures will be implemented to carry out the task as efficiently as possible and to mitigate risks.

  • Implement improvements in the analysis of P&L accounts, making the work increasingly automatic and efficient, such as reducing reclassification entries due to mapping
  • Review and lead the preparation and submission of all tax returns required by the Spanish authorities, excluding VAT. This includes, for example, Intrastat, withholdings, ecotasa, plastic, and intra-community services and acquisitions. To do this, the supervisor must ensure that we have all the necessary tools to submit these returns accurately and on time. Additionally, she should stay up to date with any changes in legislation and ensure we adapt to them as quickly as possible.
  • Ensure that all local taxes are correct, paid on time, properly supported, and accurately recorded in accordance with Spanish GAAP.
  • Lead and supervise the monthly ITP (Property Transfer Tax) process and its reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and compliance throughout the entire procedure.
  • Review the loan revocation process, verifying that all transactions are correctly recorded under Spanish GAAP and that all related invoices have been properly issued.
  • Oversee the accounting of weekly sales, ensuring they are accurately recorded in accordance with Spanish GAAP and reconciled with the CTR009 report.
  • Review and validate certificates of non-residency (for rentals and suppliers).
  • Review the accounting treatment of penalties, extraordinary expenses, and revenues.
  • Perform CSA-VAT testing.
  • Coordinate and manage key projects, including:
    • Overseeing the transition of SII (Immediate Supply of Information) VAT reporting to an external provider.
    • Reviewing VAT book discrepancies related to formal requirements such as country codes, VAT rates, tax IDs (NIFs), and descriptions.
    • Managing and resolving system issues related to Squirrel.
  • Implementing reporting improvements and recording process to increase process efficiency and risk mitigation.
  • Works in collaboration with other departments, on-site and off-site, internal, and external to MVCI to improve processes, procedures & controls to achieve the main goals described above.
  • CIT & Statutory FS supporting information as necessary.
  • Develop relationships with corporate and regional financial staff, auditors and tax authorities to ensure mutual success.
  • Participate in identifying and recommending opportunities to achieve operating efficiencies, strengthen internal controls.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of a strong control environment, with complete adherence to internal controls and SOPs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance, Business Administration, or related field is required.

Related Work Experience

2 years of accounting work experience is required.

Strong knowledge of Local GAAP and Spain Tax requirements is required.

Experience managing and understanding legal and tax administrative documentation.

Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with minimum supervision.

Supervisory Experience

Supervisory experience preferable.
