Job Description:

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Sleep Services department which includes oversight of patient scheduling and chart preparation, review of quality of acquisitions and scoring, and troubleshooting equipment. Serves as a technical resource for staff, patients and physicians and ensures the appropriate education and competencies of the technical staff. Contributes to the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes for the Sleep department.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Coordinates daily operations
    • Reviews patient scheduling to ensure productive lab, determines study type for patient.
    • Monitors quality of acquisitions and mentors as needed.
    • Develops protocols and requirements for Sleep Lab Accreditation.
    • Proficiently troubleshoots equipment, software and hardware.
    • Develops policies, procedures, lab forms, patient charts and training criteria with the Lab Manager.
    • Maintains an adequate supply of inventory.
    • Interviews, hires and provides orientation programs for staff
    • Provides monthly staff meetings and develops area specific topics for in-services and ensures staff attendance
    • Ensures staff are trained and competent in department specific areas
    • Identifies appropriate staffing levels and demonstrates ability to utilize staff to best meet department needs.
  • Polysomnographic scoring and patient education
    • Acts as a clinical resource for Polysomnographic information and scores Polysomnograms using R&K criteria for sleep staging using BRPT standards.
    • Identifies normal and abnormal dates for respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals and EEG.
    • Assures Polysomnograms are scored and reports are generated before the patient's follow-up appointment.
    • Explains the importance of the testing procedure in clear and simple terms to the patient.
    • Ensures CPAP/bi-level compliance by addressing patient questions and concerns.
    • Partners with the Medical Director to provide community education annually or as needed.
    • Maintains a safe environment by meeting requirements for annual infection control, safety and security education and following safety and security procedures.
    • Reports environmental risks or equipment malfunctions to leader.
    • Analyzes data, develops action plans and implements processes to address patient and employee safety issues.
    • Reviews all patient and employee occurrences, takes corrective action and reports appropriately within established timeframes.
  • Provides clinical leadership
    • Primary liaison between the hospital and all affiliated clinics, physicians and businesses in partnership.
    • Collaborates with the Medical Director for development of industry standards and requirements.
    • Develops partnerships across the company to achieve results and improve performance based on industry trends and best practices.
    • Problem solve customer's needs as they are identified and create solutions.
    • Reviews technologists scoring comparison results and provides feedback.
    • Reviews patient evaluation forms and proposes recommendations to the manager.
    • Maintains the processes and archives study data to back up files.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Associates or Vocational degree-Polysomnography program with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility or, equivalent experience with documented proficiency in all required competencies of a Polysomnographic Technologist or, meets Board Registered Polysomnographic (BRPT) standards for a sleep technologist
  • 3+ years as a Polysomnographic Technician/Technologist with documented proficiency in all required competencies including conducting sleep studies and test scoring
  • Excellent computer knowledge, technical expert on hardware and software programs utilized and expertise in program development
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication and teaching skills, change agent decision making, strategic planning, performance improvement and systems thinking


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a clinical healthcare field
  • Master's degree in a clinical healthcare field


Licenses/Certifications

  • BLS Tier 1 - Basic Life Support - Multisource required upon hire
  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists required certified by the board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists upon hire


Physical Demands

  • Medium Work*:
  • Lifting weight up to 32 lbs. occasionally (*Allina Safe Patient Moving Policy), up to 25 lbs. frequently

Pay Range

Pay Range: $39.19 to $53.72 per hour

The pay described reflects the base hiring pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
