Summer Intern 2026 - Data Science Engineer

This internship supports Manulife’s Retail Business. The team focuses on enabling our sales organization to make data-driven decisions through AI research, automation, and improved data accessibility.

You’ll gain exposure to how our retail business operates while sharpening your technical and analytical skill sets. Interns in this group play an active role in helping design tools and processes that make our sales teams more efficient and productive.

Role Overview

As a Data & AI Enablement Intern, you’ll collaborate with data engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to improve how we access, structure, and analyze sales data. You’ll also contribute to ongoing research exploring how AI can support sales enablement—translating technical concepts into practical business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support projects focused on data structuring and insight generation to help sales teams make better business decisions.
  • Learn to query and manipulate data using SQL and other tools within Databricks and related platforms.
  • Participate in AI research initiatives focused on productivity and efficiency across the retail sales organization.
  • Assist with data engineering tasks, including identifying and resolving data quality or accessibility issues.
  • Help bridge the gap between technical and business teams by interpreting data results and AI outputs.

What You’ll Learn

  • How large organizations use data and AI to improve sales strategy and customer engagement.
  • How to work with data pipelines, modeling, and automation in a real-world business environment.
  • The fundamentals of translating AI results into actionable insights—no heavy coding required, but comfort parsing and understanding code is helpful.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree students (rising juniors or seniors) in Computer Science, Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, or related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with SQL and interest in learning data engineering concepts.
  • Curiosity about AI applications and the business impact of emerging technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Comfort working in a collaborative, fast-moving environment.
