Opportunity

Working on AIMCo’s Investment Valuations team, you will be supporting the security and prosperity for generations of Albertans by helping the team assess fair value. You will have the unique opportunity to be involved in the valuation AIMCo’s diverse investment portfolio. Given our long-term investment strategy, you will also have the opportunity to learn about how an institutional investor operates.

As the Student, Investment Valuations, you will have gain knowledge of private investment and real estate valuation through assistance with the quarterly valuation process. You will become a subject matter expert in credit rating analysis for private fixed income investments. You will also learn to process fund valuation updates and daily price validation procedures, with additional learning to identify trends and best practices. You will have the opportunity to apply your learned-technical skills and enhance the efficiency of modeling, analysis, and reporting through creation of databases, templates, and reporting tools.

Note: This is either a 4-month or 8-month full-time term, starting in May 2026.

Responsibilities Include:

• Analysis and processing of fund investment financial statements

• Assisting with the determination of credit ratings for private debt investments

• Assisting with preparation of valuation recommendations for private investments across different asset classes

• Preparing of valuation models

• Drafting of Valuation Committee recommendation memos for quarter-ends

• Drafting and developing market reports/snapshots for key regions and industries of significant investments

• Contributing to the creation of valuation database to enable time series reporting of assumptions and results, and involvement with processing data from AIMCo’s systems for use by internal and external clients

Our Ideal Candidate:

• In pursuit of a degree in Math, Statistics, Finance, Accounting with basic knowledge in accounting

• Proficient excel skills and an interest in developing programming skills (SQL, VBA etc.) or exploring emerging technology would be considered an asset

• Enrollment in or appetite for any certification streams (e.g. CPA, CFA, CBV, FRM) is an asset

• Involvement in any student organizations pertaining to the investment industry is advantageous

• Significant interest in the capital markets industry

• Prides themselves on their exceptional attention to detail and curiosity

• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines

• Proven track record of outstanding academic achievement and performance

• Demonstrates a strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others

Success Factors:

If you are a success-motivated student, you will be able to reflect on your time on the valuations and be proud of how much you learned and grew as an aspiring professional. You will deliver near error-free reports and develop a reasonable understanding of complex valuation procedures. You will learn about problem solving and critical thinking and be expected try to solve your own issues before seeking guidance from your team members. If your work quality impresses, you will be asked to do research on valuations best practices and present to the team where there may be room to implement changes.
