We're hiring a Staff Software Engineer to represent Workato in the Model Context Protocol (MCP) ecosystem. The core of this role is contribution—to the spec, to open source tooling, and to the community.

What You Bring?
You provide deep expertise and sustained engagement within the ecosystem you’re already part of. This is not a typical product engineering role where open source is a side benefit; the primary job is ecosystem contribution:

  • Thinking deeply about the end user as much as you consider what makes a great developer experience
  • Contributions to the MCP specification and reference implementations
  • Building and maintaining open-source MCP servers and tooling
  • Participating actively in community discussions, helping others solve problems, and sharing what you learn
  • An Ability and Eagerness to represent Workato as a constructive, technically credible voice in the MCP community

What Workato Offers?
Workato has made MCP central to our platform strategy. Workato provides the sponsorship, resources, and enterprise context.

  • 100+ pre-built MCP servers for enterprise systems including Salesforce, Workday, NetSuite, Zendesk, Okta, Stripe, and others
  • MCP Cloud allows any Workato API collection to become a remote MCP server with authentication, rate limiting, and governance built in
  • Genies as MCP clients—our AI agents can invoke any third-party MCP server, connecting to the broader ecosystem
  • 12,000+ connectors available to be exposed as MCP-compatible tools

Workato benefits because we become a meaningful participant in the ecosystem rather than just a consumer of it. You benefit because you get paid to do work you're already doing, with enterprise backing and infrastructure behind you.

We’re not evaluating MCP; we’ve committed to it as the protocol layer for agentic automation in the enterprise.

The problems we're solving include identity, governance, multi-tenancy, observability. These are problems the community needs solved, and we're in a position to contribute those solutions upstream.

Required Skills:

  • 5–7+ years of professional software development experience with a proven track record of shipping high-quality products
  • Active, visible contributor to the MCP ecosystem
  • Strong software engineering skills in Python or TypeScript, with comfort across multiple languages
  • Existing relationships within the MCP community
  • Proven track record of publicly writing, discussing, reviewing, and helping
  • Experience shipping products, creating kits, understanding developer tools, and/or managing teams

Preferred Strengths:

  • Contributions to the MCP spec or official repositories
  • Experience with enterprise integration challenges
  • Track record of sustained open source contribution
  • Adaptable, proactive, and creative—comfortable working in a dynamic, startup-like environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset.

What Does Ownership Look Like?
Your primary focus is ecosystem work, but your efforts will inevitably guide how Workato evolves its own MCP capabilities:

  • Advise on architecture for exposing Workato connectors as MCP servers
  • Help shape our developer experience for MCP
  • Identify where Workato can contribute infrastructure or tooling that the domain needs
  • Serve as an active, visible contributor to the MCP ecosystem, maintaining strong relationships in the MCP community, while building new bridges.
