As a Staff Software Engineer on the Data Fabric team, you will work at the forefront of cloud technology, leading the design and delivery of scalable, distributed systems that power GE HealthCare’s next-generation data platforms. You’ll scope and implement complex technical projects, drive software engineering best practices, and collaborate with global teams to deliver high-quality solutions on tight schedules. This role emphasizes autonomy, technical depth, and continuous improvement, with a strong focus on cloud-native architectures, interoperability, and healthcare compliance. This role will be hybrid 3 days/week, hence will require the ability to work onsite. Our team is based in the US (Bellevue, WA).
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Execution:
- Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain user-facing experiences, APIs, and scalable distributed services for healthcare data integration.
- Take ownership of individual software components, emphasizing quality, test-driven development, and sound engineering practices.
- Implement innovative solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
- Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all team deliverables.
- Collaboration & Leadership:
- Work with architects, product managers, and engineering teams to align on technical direction and data strategies.
- Participate in design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback and mentoring junior engineers.
- May lead projects with low risk and resource requirements; act as a resource for colleagues with less experience.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Drive improvements in testability, operational excellence, automation, and documentation.
- Promote best practices and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence.
- Compliance & Security:
- Implement robust security and privacy controls in accordance with healthcare regulations (HIPAA, GDPR).
- Customer Focus:
- Work directly with end customers to assess needs, identify solutions, and resolve disagreements constructively.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
- 8+ years of professional software development experience across the stack, including front-end engineering and modern design principles.
- 4+ year of experience building scalable, distributed systems using a modern cloud framework (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- In-depth knowledge of distributed systems, cloud platforms, and data integration frameworks.
- Strong programming skills (Java, Python, Go) and experience with microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with healthcare interoperability standards (FHIR, DICOM).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, test automation, and DevOps practices.
- Ability to communicate technical information clearly and build consensus within the team.
Desired Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software development experience.
- Master’s or PhD degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Experience designing/architecting large-scale distributed systems, preferably using AWS technologies.
- Experience with big data systems, analytics, containerized microservices, serverless functions, and event-driven architecture.
- Experience supporting production software deployments and technical expertise across all deployment models (cloud and on-premises).
- Experience creating, documenting, and communicating software architectures for complex products.
- Experience in building, tracking, and communicating plans within Agile processes.
- Excellent technical problem-solving skills and aptitude to learn new technologies and methodologies.

For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $131,560.00-$197,340.00 Annual. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
