Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Staff Lab Design Engineer (Level 5) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Lab Test organization. This position is located in Melbourne, FL.
As the Lab Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and outfitting cutting-edge test environments for advanced air vehicle systems. You will lead the electrical design and integration efforts that turn concepts into fully functional labs — from cable interface assemblies and data-acquisition hardware to sensor suites that measure structural stress.

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Provides lab design, integration and systems engineering support for system and software engineering labs.
Designs and develops system architectures and define key capabilities and performance requirements.
Defines design and technology maturity constraints of the system in accordance with customer specifications.
Develops thorough definition of system external interfaces.
Defines system implementation approach and operational concepts.
Ensures requirements are met and evaluates performance with customers.
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 12 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 10 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience.
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Demonstrated experience with electrical systems design and/or integration in a laboratory or test environment.
Ability to collect, analyze, and synthesize technical data from multiple sources and present clear, actionable findings and recommendations to diverse audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong proficiency in interpreting and creating electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent electrical design tools
Background in manufacturing or liaison engineering to support assembly build-up and aircraft system testing.
Experience developing and managing test requirements
Hands-on experience with subsystem, payload, or systems integration
Knowledge of aircraft-type cable assemblies, MIL type wiring and components such as mil connectors, back shells, relays, switches, indicator lights, terminal junction system components, etc.
