Job brief:
The Weather Channel is searching for a Staff iOS developer to join our flagship iOS development team. This team is responsible for our native iOS efforts on iPhone and iPad, both current and in the future.
This is very much a hands-on position, and the candidate will be responsible for continuing the development of existing world-class products for the consumer weather space, as well as delivering new and innovative products for the mobile user. A wide range of skills will be required, and the candidate must be willing to continue the learning process and mentor others as The Weather Channel continues to innovate with new ideas and as new tools and techniques become available.
The Weather Channel has fully embraced dedicated Agile teams for product development. As such, the candidate must be willing and able to participate as a team member using Agile processes in an open team-based environment.
The candidate must be prepared to continue to leverage dynamic weather data in both geospatial and geo-temporal ways using maps and other visualization techniques, such as live and streaming video. In addition, The Weather Channel has a global presence, and as such, the candidate should be prepared to participate in various localization efforts as well as deliver a strong product to all markets, including changes due to cultural differences.
A commitment to quality is a must. The prospective candidate must be willing to continually work to raise the bar in terms of both code quality and user experience. This includes participating in code reviews, refactoring code as needed, and assisting others where needed. Additionally, the candidate should be willing to speak out when quality issues may be present.

- Create efficient, performant algorithms; mentor and coach others in doing the same.
- Work with Quality Assurance and Testing to deliver well-tested and working complex applications that meet required specifications.
- Be proactive and willing to raise issues early in the development process.
What you've accomplished:
- BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering
- 7 or more years of general programming experience
- At least 3 years of experience specific to iOS
- Expert in using Apple's XCode
- Expert in using Swift and SwiftUI. Experience in using Objective-C, C++, or C is a plus
- Expert in using standard debugging techniques such as logging, LLDB, and Instruments to identify, localize, and correct software defects
- Significant experience with standard Apple framework, including Foundation, WebKit, Combine, and CoreLocation
- Expert understanding of Multi-threading (GCD, OperationQueue, etc), Codable, and StoreKit is a plus
- Expert understanding of common design patterns, including MVVM, VIPER, MVP, etc
- Experience with using AI tools such as Copilot, Claude, Cursor, etc.
- Experience with WatchOS, TVOS, and WidgetKit a plus
- Experience in using REST APIs from an iOS app
- Experience with package management such as CocoaPods, PackageManager, or Carthage
- Experience in unit testing with XCTest
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins
- Strong understanding of iOS memory architectures, including MRR and ARC
- Strong understanding of the challenges related to mobile development, including battery and radio usage as well as CPU, GPU, and memory constraints
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment
