You

As a Staff Frontend Engineer, you will be the champion for UI craft on the Engineering team. You have a deep love for product, a keen eye for design, and the technical expertise to translate ambitious vision into high-quality experiences on our React/Next.js platform. You will own the multi-year strategy and architecture of our design system, guide the development of polished features, and invest time to coach and mentor senior engineers, setting the bar for quality across the organization.

  • 8-10+ years of professional experience in frontend engineering.
  • A strong portfolio or GitHub showcasing your passion for UI craft and frontend work.
  • A proven track record of leading complex, multi-team technical initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and grow engineers.

What You'll Do

Champion UI Fidelity & Craft

  • Act as the final engineering checkpoint for visual quality, ensuring spacing, typography, motion, and pixel-perfect execution.
  • Translate Figma designs into production-ready code with obsessive attention to detail.
  • Ensure that all implementations meet accessibility standards and adhere to responsive design principles.
  • Partner early with Design, Product, and Engineering leadership to define the UI architecture, assess feasibility, anticipate challenges, and guide implementation.

Define, Own, and Evolve the Design System Strategy & Architecture

  • Build production-ready React components that bring our design system to life.
  • Create comprehensive documentation, including usage guidelines, code examples, and Storybook implementations.
  • Make foundational technology and architectural choices about component APIs, design tokens, and theming systems.
  • Drive adoption across the Engineering team and ensure consistency across applications.

Mentor & Elevate the Team

  • Champion the importance of UI craft within the Engineering organization.
  • Conduct thoughtful architectural, design, and code reviews, holding the entire team to a high standard of excellence in component design, accessibility, and visual fidelity.
  • Create and maintain frontend development standards and guidelines.
  • Share knowledge through documentation, presentations, and pair programming.

Skills You Bring

Technical Expertise

  • Expert-level React and Next.js (TypeScript required).
  • Deep understanding of design systems, design tokens, and component API design.
  • Proficiency with Figma and modern prototyping tools.
  • Experience with Storybook, CSS-in-JS, CSS Modules, or Tailwind CSS.
  • Knowledge of web performance optimization and Core Web Vitals.
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards (WCAG) and best practices.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Proven collaborator and communicator; clearly articulating design/technical trade-offs to engineering, design, and product partners.
  • Experience in giving and receiving constructive feedback.
  • Track record of establishing best practices and raising the quality bar.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and balancing multiple perspectives.

Nice to Have

  • Experience translating motion design concepts into production-ready animations (Framer Motion, GSAP).
  • Familiarity with code-aware AI tools (Cursor, v0, Bolt).
  • Experience with design systems at scale in high-growth DTC or e-commerce companies.
  • Knowledge of A/B testing frameworks and experimentation methodologies.
  • Background in health, wellness, or science-focused consumer brands.
  • Previous experience at companies known for design excellence (Stripe, Airbnb, Linear, Notion).

Compensation

Salary Range: $165,000 - $190,000 annually + equity + benefits

The annual pay range for this full-time position is based across all US locations (this position is 100% remote-US). Our pay ranges are guided by discipline, level and experience required. Within the range, individual pay may vary based on additional factors, including your specific location, desired skills/technical competency, relevant experience and advanced education/training.
