What you’ll be doing

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Digital Technology. As a Staff Automation Quality Engineer, you’ll be responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of advanced automation and quality engineering practices, with an initial focus on API automation and future expansion across digital platforms including web and mobile. You’ll work closely with development teams from the early stages of project delivery to embed automation into Agile and DevOps practices. You’ll support continuous delivery by integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and enabling faster, safer releases. You’ll operate in a highly hands-on technical capacity while providing technical guidance across the team. How you’ll succeed

  • Automation Engineering & Strategy – You will design, build, and maintain scalable, code-driven automation frameworks with a primary focus on API automation. Develop automated solutions using Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, and C#, and tools such as Parasoft SOAtest, Playwright (API), Cypress (API), RestAssured, Karate, swagger and Postman/Newman to improve test coverage, reduce manual effort, and increase delivery speed.
  • CI/CD & DevOps Integration - Integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions. Partner with development teams to support shift-left testing and enable Dev and QA joint sign-off across build and release cycles.
  • Service Virtualization & Advanced Testing - Implement service virtualization and environment simulation using tools such as Parasoft Virtualize and WireMock to remove backend dependencies and enable early, stable testing. Execute contract testing, schema validation, negative testing, and API security testing.
  • Quality Transformation & Continuous Improvement - Drive modernization of quality engineering practices by introducing new automation frameworks, emerging tools, and performance optimization techniques. Continuously reduce test execution time, improve automation stability, and enhance automation KPIs to improve delivery efficiency, cost savings, and release confidence.
  • Technical Leadership & Knowledge Sharing - Provide hands-on technical leadership through coaching, mentorship, knowledge sharing, and code reviews. Support the technical upskilling of team members and promote adoption of modern automation practices.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with development, DevOps, and project teams to ensure automation is embedded throughout the delivery lifecycle and aligned with business priorities. Support future expansion into UI, web, mobile, integration, and regression automation as the digital landscape evolves.

Who you are

  • You demonstrate strong 5+ years of experience in.  automation and quality engineering. You bring extensive hands-on experience designing and implementing automated testing solutions within modern digital delivery environments. You are highly proficient in Python and modern automation frameworks, and are comfortable building code-driven automation solutions integrated into CI/CD and DevOps environments.
  • You're digitally savvy. You seek out innovative solutions and embrace evolving technologies. You can easily adapt to new tools and trends. You are adaptable, comfortable with change, and effective in evolving Agile, cloud, and DevOps-driven technology landscapes
