Sr Product Category Manager- Medical

JOB OVERVIEW:

This position is fully accountable to lead a highly complex department and/or product category and acts as the primary support to their manager. Responsibilities include leads supplier partner relationships, plan and develop the marketing and sales efforts for a category of products within their purview. Responsible for developing plans that will result in increased sales, market share and/or profitability. Responsibilities include category analysis, strategy development, supplier profitability and contribution, category maintenance and new product launches. Responsible for supplier distribution agreement negotiations, new item review and set up. Develop and/or review/approve recommendations and product analysis for Senior Management team. Must be the Product Category Expert within the Medical Group/Industry. Acts as a mentor to other PCMs and specialists.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • CATEGORY MANAGEMENT: Ownership of all activities surrounding performance of the categories for which they are responsible. This includes sales and market share analysis, identifying underperforming categories, developing plans and programs to drive sales and market share in both branded and private brand products. Provide strategic guidance on brand and private brand product additions and line extensions. Fully manages relationships with key manufacturer partners of Henry Schein Medical including Partnership program participation, National Sales Meeting attendance, price negotiations, end user offers, and sales rep incentive programs.  Builds marketing, advertising and business plans with manufacturer partners for mutual growth and success.  Serves as the main point of contact for the manufacturer.  In some instances, may manage growth incentive/ rebate programs and be responsible for quarterly rebate R/O updates to senior management.
  • NEW PRODUCT ACTIVITIES: Full accountability to manage the process of all new product submissions. Reviews information provided by PC Associate and/or Specialist to ensure all necessary information is obtained from the supplier to facilitate a timely review. Determines which products will be accepted and/or rejected. Determines pricing, forecast and opening order quantities. Oversees process of new item code creation, web attributes and descriptions and development of catalog copy. Ensure the accurate onboarding of new supplier business and regulatory terms.  Works closely with suppliers to develop a promotional plan to support a successful launch.
  • CURRENT PRODUCT LINE MANAGEMENT: Determine products and pricing to be featured in all channel media for respective product categories and work with Associate and/or Specialist to produce layout and pricing spreadsheets.  Negotiates buying deals with suppliers and oversees proper communication and implementation to Inventory Management. Ensures the accuracy of marketing product classifications and item descriptions to maintain the integrity of product content. Accountable for A-system and/or ecommerce classifications, item descriptions and images to ensure the integrity of product content. Manages and accountable for the SKU Optimization and the non-saleable pool resolution process.
  • CHANNEL MARKETING: Oversees layout and presentation for respective categories in all channel media and marketing platforms within established deadlines. Accountable for all issue resolution in this process.
  • BUSINESS ACUMEN: Complete understanding of P&L and financial metrics. Ability to make decisions that support the overall business strategy.
  • OTHER: Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.

SCOPE: 

Typically manage two or more complex sections of a department, a more complex department, large and complex process or multiple large processes. Focus on executing goals in accordance with the policies and directives of senior management. Fully accountable for meeting the operating objectives of the department. Establish key operational objectives and work plans and delegate assignments to staff. May develop proposed budgets for approval and manage budget once approved. Operate with substantial latitude for independent action or decision. May play a role in high-level projects that have an impact on the function's future direction.

COMPLEXITY: 

Increased breadth of responsibility and overall accountability (e.g. strategy, finance, negotiation, communication, etc.). Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, including an understanding of current business trends. Act as advisor/coach to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve problems. Full knowledge of multiple areas within sub-function derived from experience in in non-management and manager level role(s). Focus on executing goals in an accurate and timely manner.

STRATEGY:

Translate and implement the strategy in order to further the sub-function's larger goals through the work of more senior professional staff. Create new, or recommends changes to policies and establish procedures that affect the sub-function

SUPERVISION: 

Manage work and goals of professional level staff performing non-routine work or who manage a more complex process or system. May have subordinate supervisors.

INTERACTION: 

Regularly interact with senior management, executive levels and/or customers on matters concerning several functional areas and/or other company divisions or units. Ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.

MANAGEMENT DUTIES: 

Typically can hire, terminate, or promote and may be aware of higher-level functional issues and concerns; another level of approval may be required. Makes decisions on salary increases, performance reviews, disciplinary actions, etc.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE: 

Typically 10 or more years of increasing responsibility and complexity in terms of any applicable professional experience including 5 years of combined marketing and/or sales experience, or the equivalent required; 3 or more years of management experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION: 

Typically a Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent a plus.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 

  • Strong PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have good analytical skills and must have good communication skills. Must be able to multi-task and work in a team environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: 

Typically, to advance to a new job level, TSMs must demonstrate professional behavior and should consistently be at the high-end of meets expectations or consistently exceed expectations.

TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Travel typically less than 10%. Office environment. No special physical demands required.

The posted range for this position is $112,003 to $175,005 which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc. 

This position is eligible for a bonus not reflected in the posted range.
