The Image+Sound Senior Media Specialist is integral to the effective operation of CNN Worldwide.  They are a multifaceted member of the team who will be agile to support the day-to-day operations of acquisition and preservation.  These operations focus on recording, ingesting, and managing content for daily News and Post-Production. They will step in and complete the workflows performed by the other teams when needed. One of the primary responsibilities of this position is troubleshooting issues and escalating as needed.  The Senior Media Specialist is expected to know what the business priorities are and make decisions to support those priorities.  With the nonstop news cycle the Senior Media Specialist will know the partners and workflows well and will escalate any personnel issues to their supervisor.

Your Role Accountabilities…

  • Provide technical expertise, appropriate solutions, leadership and direction to staff ensuring smooth video production. Oversee ingesting content for daily production, post-production and preservation. Handle high profile requests or step-in and perform record, ingest, media management, and quality assurance when needed.
  • Liaise with partners including newsgathering desks, post editing, show teams, engineering and other business units regarding media needs. Collaborate with management and technology teams to assist with organizing and successfully handling special programming.
  • Lead efforts to maintain and use legacy video equipment and formats for preservation. Keep up on technology and workflow changes along with updating documentation as needed.  Suggest equipment or software applications that could improve efficiency.  
  • Guide the training of new and existing team members as well as being a resource for career questions and guidance when the leaders are not available. Contribute to the development of best practices associated with department tasks.

Qualifications & Experience…

  • 4 years within news production or related field demonstrating editorial decision making in content production, media management or project management.
  • 1 year leadership experience within a past role, or showcasing leadership aptitude via projects, company organizations or other teams.
  • Proven communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Experience in video content management with an understanding of various formats used in video and audio production.
  • Demonstrated success within a previous role contributing to the company, department and staff performance.
  • Mentoring, coaching, leading others and customer service skills are highly desirable.
  • Foreign language skills, particularly proficiency in Spanish is valued, as is advanced editing skills, even using legacy systems and formats.
  • Bachelor’s degree (typically in liberal arts such as journalism, English, political science) or similar demonstrated on the job experience.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
