Our Instructional Design team within the Human Resources organization creates engaging, effective training that supports associates across all lines of business, ensuring they have the knowledge and tools to perform at their best.  We partner closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders to transform complex processes into clear, impactful learning experiences. As a Senior Instructional Designer, you will contribute to the vision of delivering TUCE (The Unparalleled Customer Experience) to UMB’s associates and customers.  In this role, you would be responsible for collaborating with learning and performance consultants and other instructional designers to ensure we design and develop content that is consistent with a commitment toward continuous improvement. You will leverage your knowledge of learning science, apply your creative abilities, and use your technical e-learning skills to develop content enterprise-wide.  This role is best suited for someone with strong e-learning and technical acumen, and a passion for expanding the value instructional design can add to our team and our internal customers.  This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which will include multiple initiatives as assigned by HR leadership. 

This role is hybrid (Mon through Thu on-site / Fri remote) for candidates in the Kansas City metropolitan area and open to qualified remote candidates outside of the Kansas City area but only within the US.

How you’ll spend your time:

  • Collaborate with learning and performance consultants on the strategic design of solutions presented to stakeholders.  
  • Work with subject matter experts to develop content (e-learning, videos, etc.) that aligns to strategic objectives. 
  • Support the implementation of learning initiatives as needed, including LMS configuration and online or in-person facilitator led initiatives.  
  • Support the initial and ongoing processes for analysis and evaluation of learning initiatives as needed.  
  • Coach new instructional designers on instructional methods/approaches and authoring tools.  
  • Keep abreast of training and development research, learning theory, motivation theory, and new materials, methods, and techniques.  

We’re excited to talk with you if:

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree and at least 8 years of experience collaborating on learning projects from analysis to evaluation for a variety of business liens OR any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.
  • You have advanced proficiency using e-learning authoring tools such as Articulate 360, Camtasia, and Adobe Creative Cloud. 
  • You have experience working with Vyond or equivalent 2d animated video program.
  • You have strong experience in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.
  • You are able to coach and mentor a team.
  • You have knowledge of instructional design best practices and demonstrated ability to design learning content that is effective.
  • You have continuous learner with a growth mindset dedicated to expanding their knowledge and honing their craft.
  • You can effectively apply principles of cognitive science and adult learning to design solutions that maximize learning and/or behavioral outcomes.  For example, enhancing motivation and increasing knowledge retention.
  • You successfully selected and aligned delivery options and media for training and/or learning events to the desired learning or behavioral outcomes.
  • You possess a strong work ethic with a mindset of accountability and ownership.

Bonus Points If:

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Psychology or a related field.
  • You have certifications and/or affiliations with relevant professional associations.
  • You have proficiency using WalkMe.
  • You have knowledge of Workday LMS.

Compensation Range:

$69,230.00 - $149,000.00

The posted compensation range on this listing represents UMB’s standard for this role, but the actual compensation may vary by geographic location, experience level, and other job-related factors.
