14The Role: Sr. Director, S&P Global Commodity Insights Strategy
The Team: You are part of the larger Enterprise Strategy & Planning Team. Specifically, this role focuses on our S&P Global Commodity Insights business. Commodity Insights powers decisions that transform trade. From the shift towards sustainability to unpredictable supply chains and geopolitical influences, CI provide insights needed to clarify uncertainties and drive informed decisions for a resilient future. As part of a larger enterprise team, you will have complementary talent to support your success as you oversee establishing strategic growth priorities and plans and tracking key business metrics and progress against strategic initiatives.

The Impact: The Director, CI Strategy for S&P Global Commodity Insights is a critical member of the Strategy team and is focused on driving the near- and long-term strategic objectives for the business. You will manage multiple complex projects of significant strategic impact at one time, often across departmental boundaries and geographies. You will influence senior leaders across the business and functional groups and build consensus and ownership of ideas, plans and output. You will have a direct report to support your efforts and you will be part of the broader Enterprise Strategy Team.
What’s in it for you: You will support the development and execution of strategy for the S&P Global Commodity Insights business, with a particular focus on M&A prospecting, due diligence, and transaction execution. In this role, you will partner closely with teams across S&P Global to identify and assess organic and inorganic growth opportunities. In addition, you will work closely with the Head of Strategy and Chief Financial Officer on strategic projects and supporting presentations to senior management.
Responsibilities:
Lead strategy development for the division, leveraging cross-functional teams of subject matter experts.
In close partnership with Divisional Strategy leads and SPGI Enterprise Strategy and corporate development leaders, work on strategic advisory projects focused on strategy development and execution, corporate development, and strategic partnerships (including market entry strategies, executive presentations, financial analysis, etc.) for the CI division and support execution of strategic investments.
Leverage scenario planning, case studies and modeling capabilities to strengthen the strategy.
Drive execution of top divisional strategies, working closely with Commercial and Product Management stakeholders. This involves moving strategic initiatives from concepts to actionable business concepts
AI Strategy & Execution: Drive execution of CI’s longer-term AI strategy in collaboration with key internal stakeholders
Support acquisitions and partnerships which strengthen S&P Global CI’s market position, as well as expand our footprint in high priority geographic and/or commodity/energy markets.
Develop and maintain financial analysis models to assist in investment evaluation and business case development, project prioritization and investment approval process.
Articulate the S&P Global CI strategy in a clear and compelling strategic narrative to key stakeholders, tailoring messages depending on executive audience.
Lead communication of SPG CI’s strategy and updates to the board of directors and to the investor community
Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies. In partnership with Commercial and Strategy colleagues, conduct market research and leverage internal customer insights to identify new opportunities and enhance existing products.
Identify changes in market conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, regional or country macro-economic factors, etc. which may require changes to strategic plans.
Lead project-specific cross-function teams to deliver excellent strategy output. Be a role model, educator, coach, mentor across the wider organization.
Proactively engage with external stakeholders to source, evaluate, and develop new business opportunities for the division in close collaboration with Commercial stakeholders
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $174,420 to $305,205 USD. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We’re Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree in related field or MBA strongly preferred
10+ years of relevant experience including but not limited to financial analysis, M&A modelling and execution, strategy, and/or senior executive exposure and support
Demonstrated ability to drive projects with significant strategic impact
Highly motivated, demonstrated ability to take initiative and ability to influence senior leaders
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Excellent communication and relationship management capabilities
Solid business acumen with knowledge and awareness of commodity and energy markets
Preference to candidate with knowledge of application of AI to financial services, emerging technologies, and experience developing technology strategies
