The Sr. DC Safety Department Lead will support in leading a safe work environment at their respective Distribution Center.  They will foster a strong safety culture through effective coaching, teaching, and training of all team members who work within the building as well as support the execution of company safety initiatives as directed by the Regional Safety Manager.   

This position reports to: Regional Safety Manager

Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities

  • Under the direction of the Regional Safety Manager, this role will plan, direct and implement the organization’s safety programs to ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free work environment and all operations comply with all applicable federal, state, county and local safety-related regulations
  • Work in tandem with the Regional Safety Manager to determine safety goals, support new hire team members to ensure they are trained and working safely, support Operations in quarterly training, and execute the site Safety Action Plan as needed.
  • Support the implementation of safety training as well as teach, coach, and train team members to work safe daily.
  • Run regular Safety New Hire Orientations in coordination with HR and Operations.
  • Asist in running Monthly Safety Committee Meetings.
  • Organize post-accident review meetings with leadership as directed.
  • Ensure all regulatory and compliance audits/inspections are completed to BJ’s standards.
  • Understand current OSHA regulations in order to audit, research, and resolve safety hazards and respond to team members questions and issues.
  • Positively and proactively work and communicate with the operations team, peers, and other levels of leadership.
  • Participate in continued professional development and leadership training.
  • Lead the team modeling Safety First.
  • Creates a culture of accountability and ownership by holding self and team accountable to follow all policies and procedures.
  • Have willingness to learn all areas of the distribution center and willingness to work a flexible (outside of normal shift) schedule when business needs dictate (possible early/late shifts, off shifts, other departments, etc.).
  • Keep management informed of new or revised rules and ensure all safety-related compliance requirements are met
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Environmental Job Conditions

  • Frequently requires lifting objects up to 30 pounds. May require lifting and moving heavy and/or awkward objects greater than 30 pounds with assistance.
  • Located in an indoor environment with exposure to changing temperatures, including heat and cold, noise and dust.
  • Perform repetitive, dexterous movements related to computer use and data entry
  • When needed stand, sit, bend, twist, lift for up to 8 hours a day

In accordance with the Pay Transparency requirements, the following represents a good faith estimate of the compensation range for this position. At BJ’s Wholesale Club, we carefully consider a wide range of non-discriminatory factors when determining salary. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, education, experience, and qualifications. The pay range for this position is starting from $24.00.
