About the Team:

The Product Development Team at Gotion Illinois New Energy Inc. focuses on the design and development of advanced battery products for next-generation energy storage system (ESS) and electric vehicle (EV) applications. We lead the full product development cycle, integrating mechanical, electrical, thermal, and control system to create high-performance battery solutions, along with comprehensive system integration, validation, and certification activities.

Role Summary:

The Battery Product Certification Engineer will lead and manage product safety testing, regulatory compliance, and certification processes for our lithium-ion battery products. This role is critical in ensuring that our battery systems (for EV or ESS applications) meet applicable global standards and regulatory requirements, supporting product launch and market access in regions such as North America, Europe, and Asia. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in battery safety standards, third-party testing coordination, and cross-functional collaboration with engineering and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead certification and regulatory approval processes for lithium-ion cells, modules, battery packs, racks, and ESS containers across global markets.
  • Coordinate with third-party labs (CAS, UL, TÜV, etc.) to conduct required testing for standards such as UL 1973, UL 2580, UL 9540, UL 9540A, UN 38.3, IEC 62133, NFPA 855, etc.
  • Engage with local authorities and AHJs to address safety and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with product design, systems, and quality teams to ensure early integration of compliance requirements into product development cycles.
  • Develop and manage product compliance plans and timelines to align with project milestones.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation for certification submissions, including test reports, risk assessments, and declarations of conformity.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of experience in battery certification, regulatory compliance, or product safety engineering for EV or ESS products.
  • Hands-on experience with battery-related standards and certifications (e.g., UL 2580, UL 9540, UN 38.3, NFPA 68, NFPA 69, NFPA 855, etc.).
  • Experience working with third-party testing labs and certification agencies.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally to support testing, audits, and certification activities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience with large-scale ESS product fire and safety certifications is strongly preferred.
  • Registered Fire Protection Engineer (FPE), certified fire marshal, or direct experience working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) considered a strong asset.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese (Mandarin) is preferred.

 

The US base salary range for this full-time position is 90,000.00 - 128,000.00 + 15% bonus + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
