Join our Internal Audit Data & Analytics (D&A) team as a Senior Analyst, Data Designer, where you’ll play a key role in supporting the team’s standardization and run support processes across a variety of tools, including SQL, Databricks, R, Python, ACL, Dataiku, Power BI, and Power Automate. While advanced proficiency in all of these tools is not expected, a strong analytical mindset and a willingness to learn are essential for success in this role.

 

In this role, you’ll continuously expand your knowledge of digital tools and business processes, while collaborating with auditors and business partners to design, develop, and maintain data solutions that support internal reporting, continuous audit, and monitoring activities. You’ll help ensure that processes and procedures effectively support risk and control objectives that impact Nationwide’s operations and be empowered to think critically and shape solutions that drive meaningful outcomes. Your work will span Nationwide’s diverse portfolio, including Nationwide Technology (NT), Property & Casualty (P&C), Nationwide Financial (NF), and Corporate Services (CS).

This is a hybrid position located in Columbus, Ohio and you will be required to come into the office two days per week. 

This role does not qualify for employer sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

As a Data Designer you’ll process, organize, structure or present data to make it meaningful for business decision making and to position data-intensive projects/programs for success. You’ll be an integral part of a project, program or team and perform a variety of tasks related to identifying business partners’ analytical needs and obtaining, collecting, organizing and interpreting data. You’ll perform analysis and interpret results, providing insights and recommendations. This may take the form of thematic maps, reports, charts, tables and other analytic visualization.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Under general supervision evaluates information from a few sources, provides recommendations, reconciles conflicts, cleans data into a consumable format and classifies the information into logical categories.

  • Uses basic visualization techniques and skills to present findings of data exploration exercises.

  • Helps with mapping the flow of data and the business processes and/or technical interfaces which would be created or impacted. Recommends solutions and adaptations as appropriate.

  • Documents the source to target mappings for data integration and web services.

  • Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

  • Aligns with data quality and transformation rules and develops infrastructure and/or other tools to communicate mapping to relevant groups.

  • Identifies and documents the sources of existing and new data.

  • Helps enterprise partners to conduct data profiling using standardized tools.

  • Obtains and manages data, performs analyses, interprets results, and provides insights and recommendations to internal clients.

  • Prepares thematic maps, reports, charts, tables, and other analytic visualization to support business needs.

  • Assists in the creation or reviews conceptual, logical and physical data models and determines the most appropriate method to represent the data for business consumption/use.

  • Collaborates with project teams to ensure compliance with the Enterprise Data Governance policy and standards on information risk and data protection guidelines.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director Data Leader.

Typical Skills and Experiences: 

Education:  Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education strongly preferred.  Graduate studies in business, statistics, math, computer science or a related field are a plus.

License/Certification/Designation:  Certifications are not required but encouraged.

Experience:  Two years of relevant experience with data quality rules, data management organization/standards or practices.  Experience in statistical analysis in determining data quality and fitness. Experience using data quality results to determine whether existing sources of data are enough for business needs. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:  Data application and practices knowledge. Good oral and written communication skills.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
