Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field and two (2) years of relevant experience. Registered Dietitian (RD) with active status through the Commission on Dietetics Registration and licensed Dietitian in the State of Kentucky. Grade 6 (Salaried).

Position Description:

The University of Louisville Athletic Department seeks candidates for a Sports Nutritionist II position to assist with providing nutritional support services to the University of Louisville Football student-athletes.

The Sports Nutritionist II (Sports Dietitian, Football) will provide nutritional support services to the University of Louisville Football program. They will collaborate with the Manager, Sports Nutrition (Director of Sports Nutrition, Football), to assist student athletes in achieving optimal athletic performance. Primary responsibilities include team and individual nutrition oversight, clinical and/or medical nutrition therapy, assistance with food service and team meals, managing databases and ordering systems as well as directing intern and student workforce.

The Sports Dietitian will be required to work a non-standard workweek, including some nights, weekends, and holidays, and travel with the team as needed for away games.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sport Nutrition: Manage and oversee nutrition for football: provide weekly nutrition education “drip-feed” (e.g., pre- and post-exercise nutrition and hydration, etc.); development of sport nutrition programming and communication systems, a weekly presence at meals for hands-on nutrition education, menu development based on performance needs, managing procurement systems, direct practice and Game Day fueling, and assist in recruiting efforts as requested. May participate as part of the early travel team for away games as requested.

  • Counseling: Provide individualized nutrition care to student-athletes for health and performance; topics may include areas such as weight loss, weight gain, body composition, hydration, meal planning, and general nutrition education.

  • Clinical: Provide medical nutrition therapy to aid in the health and well-being of student-athletes, including but not limited to injury, illness, blood laboratory values, disease states and conditions, and supplement education. Coordinate and integrate nutrition care services with other facets of health care, interacting and collaborating with physicians, athletic trainers, other health care professionals, coaches, and athletics staff to provide holistic, high-performance care to football student athletes.

  • Supplement and Vitamin Regulation: Research, evaluate, recommend, purchase, distribute, and monitor vitamins/mineral supplements as well as permissible and effective nutritional supplements with attention to NCAA regulations and nutrition-related bylaws.

  • Sports Science: Create and manage databases and systems (e.g., Catapult, Bod Pod, dietitian tracking database, etc.).

  • Manage and direct student assistants & interns with fuel station staffing & operations, procurement system, and supporting role of sports dietitian.

  • Student-athlete meal card management for Thorntons’ dining venue.

  • Manage product budgets with established vendors for the department.

  • Provide assistance on planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating all projects that support the vision of the Sports Nutrition Department.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Manager, Sports Nutrition (Director of Sports Nutrition, Football) or Senior Director of Nutrition.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior experience with an NCAA Division I collegiate program.

  • Background and strong interest in sports nutrition.

  • Knowledge of sports nutrition, medical nutrition therapy, eating disorders/disordered eating, and motivational interviewing.

  • Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.

  • Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics (CSSD) and/or Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).

Compensation will be commensurate to candidate experience.
