POSITION SUMMARY:

The applicant is responsible for managing the sizing and timing of work activities across Cogeco’s Critical Facilities, Headends, and Hubsites in Ontario in accordance with established capacity management, monitoring, planning procedures, and standards. The Infrastructure Capacity Engineering Specialist is also accountable for reporting to Management and Stakeholders on project key performance indicators within their scope/region to ensure that all projects are completed within the prescribed deadlines, budget, and quality.  Overall accountability for design and engineering of critical facility infrastructure and serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) to support operations for Electrical Power Systems, HVAC, and Capacity Monitoring within the constraints of scope, quality, time, and cost to deliver specific requirements and efficiently maximize the benefit of infrastructure investments. 


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and manage a short-term and a long-term Critical Facility and ISP fibre Management Plan for Ontario in accordance with the technology roadmap and future service launches to oversee the Infrastructure capacity utilization. 

  • Conducts critical in-depth analysis of Critical facilities capacity utilization. Coordinate, oversee, and ensure efficient operation and adhere to relevant codes of systems (UPS, PDU, Diesel Generators, ATS equipment, Building Controls, HVAC, industrial electrical equipment, and lighting).

  • Develops cost-effective engineering solutions for Critical facility Infrastructure and ISP fibre capacity optimization.

  • Manage requests applicable to assignments, inspections, and supervision of engineering and contracted work activities to oversee Internal and External resources necessary to obtain project goals and construction work activities.

  • Recommend new technology/products and implement efficient processes related to Headend network infrastructure & ISP fibre expansion.

  • Maintains departmental databases and reports relating to Critical Facilities and ISP fibre. 

  • Leads in gathering clients’ requirements, engineering scope, and cost analysis, and provides effective engineering solutions.

  • Collaborate with technical resources and business subject matter experts to establish the technical vision.

  • Initiate and manage projects according to Cogeco business objectives from conception to completion

  • Produce project plans and schedules for all efforts required for the successful delivery of internal and cross-functional projects.

  • Efficiently manages the project plan, budget, and scope of departmental projects

  • Responsible for preparing Capital Request documentation.

  • Facilitate communication as appropriate to all stakeholders

  • Manage the project life cycle efficiently

  • Assist in preparing Capital budgets and forecasts

  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

ACADEMIC TRAINING

  • University Degree in a relevant discipline or a combination of equivalent education and work experience required.

  • Project Management accreditation (e.g.,A PMI Certification) is an asset.

  • Professional Engineer is an asset

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of experience in telecommunications

  • 5+ years of experience in capacity planning, infrastructure engineering, and construction telecom and data facilities

  • 5-8 years of experience in managing projects

  • 8-10 years of experience in working with cross-functional teams and interdisciplinary environments

SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Process and detail-oriented with solid problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and budgeting skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing/management skills

  • Well-developed planning skills for capacity requirements of the Critical facilities with regard to infrastructure, including power, cooling, space, and fibre.

  • In-depth knowledge of the Telecommunication industry, particularly CATV and Data network technologies, and their applications in HFC, FTTX, and other network architectures

  • High ability to read Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical engineering drawings and product technical documentation

  • Good strategic vision with excellent leadership skills

  • Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities and projects, and balance operational requirements with strategic imperatives. Able to work under pressure with multiple concurrent deliverables

  • Experience and have a strong understanding of telecom industry best practices and guidelines, and the ability to apply during planning and construction of Critical facilities and infrastructure

  • Familiar with CSA, TSSA, utility standards, environmental and municipal by-laws and regulations.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and work independently with minimal supervision

  • Self-motivated and takes initiative to resolve problems independently

  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License for site checks/inspections
