Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal Software Engineer – Level 3 – Web-Based SW Engineer to join our team of talented and diverse professionals. This position is based in Colorado Springs, CO.  This role is vital in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.

This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is an essential component of the Missile Defense System. It provides a critical operational platform that enables the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals.

C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, providing an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to improve overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC plays a vital role in all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.

This position supports the C2BMC program in Colorado Springs, CO. It is a mid-level role responsible for configuration management, software, and web development, assisting the tools development and management lead and the IT teams. The lead oversees responsibilities, including supporting existing applications and developing user interfaces and tools for internal use on C2BMC.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for understanding documented requirements, implementing solutions, and conducting unit tests for tools and code
  • Knowledge and experience in configuration management, software, and web development

Basic Qualifications:

Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline or a related field from an accredited university is preferred, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master’s degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience, or a PhD and 1 year of related experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
  • Ability and willingness to travel up-to 10% to support business needs
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Knowledge of web-based software development and user interface design
  • Experience with frameworks for building web applications, such as Angular or React
  • Ability to work with:
    • Java
    • HTTP
    • JavaScript/JSON
    • CesiumJS open source
    • JavaScript library
    • WildFly/JBossAS application server

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with an active DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA) are strongly preferred at the time of application. If such certification is not held, it must be obtained within 40 days of the start date. The selected candidate will be responsible for securing and maintaining their DoD 8140 certification on their own personal time and at their own expense. Candidates who fail to obtain the required certification within 40 days will be evaluated for removal and subject to termination.
  • Prior experience with DoD contracts related to tools and web development is a strong advantage
  • Platforms and tools should include some of the following:
    • PHP
    • Apache and IIS web servers
    • MySQL
    • Oracle
    • JavaScript
    • RHEL Linux
    • Eclipse and/or Java Beans
    • Sphinx
    • ClearQuest
    • Memcached
  • Experience with relational, graph, or document databases
  • Experience with TypeScript, Docker, Elasticsearch, Bootstrap, and Jira
  • Experience in DevOps / DevSecOps is a plus
  • Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD)
  • Experience configuring Jenkins builds
  • Experience with software security tools like HP Fortify and SonarQube
  • Experience with microservices, Swagger, and API definitions
  • Demonstrated use of Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) and configuration management tools (Git, Bitbucket)
  • The following Tool Qualifications are highly preferred:
    • WAVE, Selenium, iSpace, Spring Boot, Istio/OpenShift/Kubernetes, Nginx, HashiCorp Vault, ArgoCD/FluxCD, Prometheus, Elastisearch, Terraform/OpenTofu

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
