About the Role:

Behind the scenes, we’re evolving our tech stack from legacy systems to a modern, cloud-native architecture. Our teams are embracing Spring Boot, JDK 21, Thymeleaf, Bootstrap, Docker, and GitHub Actions to build scalable microservices deployed via ArgoCD. We use GitHub for version control and leverage Copilot and AI-assisted tooling to accelerate development and improve code quality. We value practical experience, curiosity, and collaboration and we’re looking for engineers who want to help shape the future of civic technology.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop automated test frameworks and test cases for backend and UI components

  • Collaborate with developers and QA to ensure high-quality releases

  • Contribute to performance testing using K6 or JMeter

  • Participate in code reviews and share testing best practices

  • Support CI/CD integration of test suites

  • Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.

Requirements:

  • Experience in software development or test automation You’ve worked on real-world projects and understand how to build and maintain testable systems.

  • Proficiency in Java (Java 8 or above, LTS versions) You’re comfortable writing testable Java code and working with modern language features.

  • Experience with Playwright or similar UI automation tools You can automate browser-based testing and validate user experiences.

  • Familiarity with performance testing tools (K6, JMeter) You know how to simulate load and measure system responsiveness.

  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments You can integrate tests into automated workflows and work with Docker-based setups.

  • Experience using GitHub for version control and familiarity with AI-assisted tooling like Copilot You’re comfortable working in modern development environments.

  • Strong SQL skills You can write optimized queries and understand relational data models.

  • Proficiency in development languages including but not limited to: Java/J2EE, JavaScript, JSP, C/C++, HTML, XML, SQL, Windows, UNIX

  • Familiarity of industry best practices — code coverage.

  • Ability to write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.

Nice to Haves:

  • Exposure to Spring Boot and microservices

  • Experience with GitHub Actions and Docker

  • Familiarity with Thymeleaf and Bootstrap

  • Experience with Angular or similar frontend framework

U.S. National Base Pay Range: $77,300 - $128,700. Geographic differentials may apply in some locations to better reflect local market rates. This job is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
