Software Development Engineer In Test III(SDET)

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The SDET is responsible for testing the company's products to ensure that company standards and specifications are met. Responsibilities include executing test cases, creating and running automated scripts, creating defect reports, and working with Application Engineering to troubleshoot issues. The Lead QA Engineer will perform some, or all, of the following types of testing: functional, regression, usability, and load/performance. Also, the SDET works closely with the Manager, Application Engineering to ensure that the product is meeting the Waystar quality standards.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Team Leadership & Management

  • Manage, mentor, and develop a team of QA Engineers.
  • Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor progress to ensure timely delivery of QA objectives.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide constructive feedback.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

Strategic QA Planning

  • Define and implement comprehensive test strategies and frameworks for projects.
  • Oversee the creation and maintenance of test plans, cases, and documentation.
  • Ensure alignment of QA activities with business goals and product requirements.

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve QA processes, tools, and methodologies.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance automation coverage and efficiency.
  • Drive adoption of best practices in testing, defect management, and reporting.

Technical Oversight

  • Guide the team in developing and maintaining automated test scripts for web, API, and service layers (Selenium, Playwright, C#.Nunit, Postman, Jmeter, etc.).
  • Ensure integration of automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Oversee backend validation and data integrity checks using SQL and other tools.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Application Engineers, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Represent the QA function in Scrum ceremonies, backlog grooming, and sprint planning.
  • Communicate QA status, risks, and issues to leadership and project teams.

Defect Management

  • Oversee defect identification, logging, tracking, and resolution using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps.
  • Ensure timely troubleshooting and validation of fixes.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of experience in software quality assurance, with at least 1 years in a lead or supervisory role.
  • Proficiency in:
    • Automation tools and Frameworks: Selenium, Playwright, C#.Nunit.
    • Testing tools: Postman, Azure DevOps.
    • Databases: SQL Server, MySQL.
    • Test Management: Zephyr, Azure Test Plans.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile methodologies, and QA best practices.
  • Experience with API testing and CI/CD integration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare or revenue cycle management.
  • Familiarity with X12 transactions.
  • Knowledge of performance and load testing tools.
