Shooter/Producer/Editor, The California Post

Los Angeles - Pico Blvd Full time

Job Description :

The New York Post is heading West – and this is your chance to be a part of history as we open a brand-new newsroom and make a significant investment in Los Angeles. The California Post will be a game changer, putting the people of the Golden State first and holding the powerful to account across digital platforms and print.

This is a unique, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: The California Post will bring The New York Post’s DNA of powerful, agenda-setting journalism to the West Coast and be a fresh and fearless voice for common sense.

Our focus will also go well beyond hard-hitting news and iconoclastic opinion. The nationally recognized Page Six will bring its sassy and brassy attitude directly to the entertainment capital of the world. The California Post Sports department will deliver muscular coverage of the biggest teams in town, from the locker room to the front office. Our Tech team will reveal the latest innovators and innovations that will shape the nation’s future.

Los Angeles is one of the great cities of the world, and it’s time L.A. – and California at large – had a bold, new voice. The California Post will be that voice. California, here we come!

The California Post is launching in January! Our new video team is seeking a Producer / Shooter / Editor well versed in long-form digital formats to create compelling, shareable videos. A creative person who is also a gearhead who knows how to navigate both in the field and in a studio quickly setting up a studio shoot. This role will be responsible for executing stories from conception through completion and should have solid experience reporting, editing and shooting clickworthy video content.  You must be skilled at conducting deep research and preproduction on various topics.

We seek a candidate who is excited about new types of multimedia storytelling and has a track record of creating digital video. Must be aware of the latest formats and trends in digital video as a distinct form of content (not TV-derivative.)

Must edit fast and with flourish. Expertise with Adobe Creative Suite a must. (Premiere, Photoshop, and familiarity with After Effects.)

Must have interest across a variety of topic areas from national news, Hollywood, business and innovation, sports, tabloid fare and societal trends. Candidates should have a passion for creating video journalism for multiple digital platforms that will resonate with our audience - topical, fearless, common-sense. Can-do attitude is key: someone who believes news doesn’t have to be boring and who appreciates the odd and unconventional stories as well as important ones.

This is an opportunity to work with an iconic media brand as it continues exponential digital growth. Our parent company - the New York Post Digital Network has garnered more than a billion video views in the past year.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience creating video for digital platforms

  • Proficiency in shooting DSLR cameras with interchangeable lenses / monitoring sound

  • Expertise with key productions in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, and familiarity with After Effects.)

  • Must be aware of latest formats and trends in digital video as a distinct form of content, not TV-related

  • This candidate must have a strong aesthetic eye and cinematic tendencies

  • Must enjoy working collaboratively and accurately in a fast paced but fun environment

  • Attention to detail and journalistic values of accuracy and fairness a must.

  • Familiarity with California preferred
