Responsibilities:

Essential Functions

Promotes positive relations when interacting with patients, visitors, families, physicians, customers and co-workers. Serves as a role model to all staff.

Assists in the development and implementation of short and long-range initiatives for the assigned service line which are congruent with Patient Care Division goals and the Hospital mission, vision and core values.

Assures staff compliance with standards relating to operations, safety and patient care as promulgated by Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and other regulatory agencies, Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), professional associations and Hospital board and administration.

Maintains appropriate supply levels of specialty supplies such as service specific inventory to ensure timely availability by ordering and/or coordinating ordering in a timely manner, tracking progress of order, verifying receipt of and delivery of supplies.

Obtains and maintains appropriate instrument and/or supply levels of specialty supplies such as patient specific products for cases to ensure timely availability by ordering and/or coordinating ordering in a timely manner, tracking progress of order, verifying receipt and delivery of supplies.

Assures that service line equipment is maintained to promote optimum operation and safety.

Utilizes human, material, fiscal resources of assigned unit(s) within budgetary guidelines or within acceptable budget variances.

Monitors the quality of care and customer satisfaction within the assigned service line, demonstrating commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement.

Promotes a safe work environment that prevents and/or reduces risks to the organization, patient and personnel.

Promotes a positive work environment that encourages employee development, employee involvement and employee satisfaction.

Promotes a collaborative relationship with Medical Staff.

Coordinates all loaner sets.

Maintains set consignment inventory.

Maintains Sterile Processing data and reports it to appropriate areas.

Responsible for compliance with all regulatory standards related to Sterile Processing and instruments.

Performs the duties of instrument maintenance, repair or replacement.

Assist with instrument vendor selection for quality and price.

Builds sets for all services. Reduces set inventory as necessary.

Purchase instruments and assigns instruments to sets and to selected services.

Establishes par levels for back stock instruments.

Job Description:

Job Requirements

Education

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D) required
  • Graduation from an approved Surgical Technology program required.
  • Satisfactory completion of annual mandatory education requirement.


Experience

  • Competent performance in all Surgical procedures and specialties.
  • Must meet ST Level 2 criteria.
  • Proficient in multiple specialty areas required.
  • Previous experience in preceptor role preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years surgical experience required.


License/Certifications

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification with currency per the Liaison Council of Certification for Surgical Technologists required, if CEU's are not accumulated to maintain certification, must retest for certification.
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Ability to perform mathematical computations.
  • Knowledge of databases preferred. 
  • Computer knowledge with solid understanding of Microsoft applications. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to effectively communicate and interact with patients, family members, hospital personnel, and co-workers. 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work assignments. 
  • Ability to learn, retain, and utilize computer skills that are required for department and hospital information system.
