Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assessing overall risk exposure and making underwriting decisions to manage and grow a profitable book of business.
  • Leading the development and execution of strategic business plans for key accounts to enhance client relationships.
  • Analyzing trends within the book of business to identify opportunities for expansion and improvement.
  • Directing special projects with strategic importance, overseeing their progress and ensuring successful outcomes.
  • Collaborating with product management to refine underwriting guidelines and enhance product offerings.
  • Engaging with professional associations to exchange knowledge and apply industry best practices to current processes.
  • Providing expert recommendations to senior management on complex underwriting issues and business development strategies.
  • Overseeing the training and professional development of underwriting staff to build a high-performing team.


Requirements:

  • Be able to apply specialized knowledge in underwriting to assess risk and make informed decisions.
  • Possess the ability to lead and influence others in strategic planning and execution of business plans.
  • Have the capability to conduct thorough analysis of business trends and performance within the underwriting domain.
  • Be skilled in project management, with the ability to oversee and ensure the success of strategic initiatives.
  • Be able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to enhance product offerings and underwriting guidelines.
  • Be committed to engaging with industry peers and professional associations to sustain expertise and cultivate professional connections.
  • Have the capacity to provide well-founded recommendations to senior management on complex underwriting issues and business strategies.
  • Be capable of guiding and developing underwriting talent to foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.


Expertise:
Senior professional, may be recognized as having an area of expertise or specialization. Interacts regularly and independently with product management in order to improve their skill set. Participates in professional associations to gain expertise and to network.

Relationship Management:
May take a lead role with some clients/brokers. Accountable to develop plans for accounts and book of business.

Complexity/Strategic Impact:
Analyzes a book of business to contribute to regional plans. Provides recommendations to enhance/expand existing relationships. Leads special projects. Planning time horizon is several months or more - typically the length of a project.

Autonomy/Authority:
Has autonomy within standard work processes to choose an approach and execute. Produces analysis where review is only after the fact. Higher level UW authority is achievable based on expertise.

Financial Impact:
Typically manages an existing book of business and accountable for new business. Size of book also considered.
