Role Overview
We are seeking a highly capable and independent Treasury Manager to lead and manage the Japan Treasury function for Coupang, a global technology enterprise. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of treasury operations in Japan, including payments, liquidity management, banking relationships, FX, compliance, and process optimization. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong operational execution skills, with specific knowledge of the Japanese market, capable of driving initiatives that enhance financial efficiency and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Treasury Management
- Lead the end-to-end treasury operations for Japan, including payments, ensuring optimal liquidity, cash flow forecasting, and funding strategies.
- Develop and maintain strong banking relationships, negotiate terms, set up bank accounts and perform KYC, and ensure alignment with global treasury policies.
- Monitor key business, macroeconomic, and regulatory developments in Japan that may impact treasury operations or financial risk.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee daily cash management, payment execution, collections monitoring, and bank account administration.
- Ensure timely and accurate execution of FX transactions and settlements.
- Manage month-end treasury accounting, reconciliations, and reporting in coordination with Finance and Accounting teams.
- Maintain compliance with internal controls, KYC requirements, and payment authorization protocols.
Process Improvement & Stakeholder Engagement
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control in treasury workflows.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Finance, Tax, Legal, Payroll, AP, etc.) to support business initiatives and resolve treasury-related issues.
- Support global treasury initiatives and provide insights from the Japan market to inform broader strategy.
Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and present regular liquidity reports, cash flow forecasts, and treasury dashboards to senior management.
- Provide ad hoc analysis and reporting to support strategic decision-making and global treasury operations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or professional certification (e.g., CTP) preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in Treasury or Corporate Finance, with at least 4 years in a treasury-specific role.
- Experience in multinational corporations, preferably in technology, ecommerce, or retail sectors.
- Strong understanding of Japanese banking systems, FX markets, and regulatory environment.
- Proficiency in SAP, online banking platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication skills in both Japanese (native) and English (business level).
- Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive results in a fast-paced environment.
