The Allegro team is united by a clear purpose—advancing technologies that make the world safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. With over 30 years of experience in semiconductor innovation, we bring that purpose to life across every part of the business—from breakthrough product development and customer success to how we show up for each other and the communities we serve.
The Opportunity
As the Failure Analysis Lead at Allegro MicroSystems, you will be a key technical leader responsible for managing and guiding the failure analysis team in conducting in-depth investigations of semiconductor devices. You will oversee both non-destructive and destructive analysis techniques, driving root cause identification for complex product failures, field returns, and manufacturing issues. This role requires a blend of advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to mentor junior engineers, implement best practices, and collaborate strategically with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality and reliability across Allegro's portfolio. Your leadership will be instrumental in preventing recurrence of failures and improving overall product performance.
What You Will Do
Lead and manage a team of Failure Analysis Engineers, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and fostering their professional development.
Oversee and prioritize complex failure analysis investigations for product returns, manufacturing excursions, and new product development issues, ensuring timely and accurate root cause identification.
Develop, implement, and continuously improve failure analysis methodologies, processes, and laboratory capabilities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Perform advanced non-destructive and destructive failure analysis techniques, utilizing a wide range of specialized equipment (e.g., SEM/EDX, CSAM, X-ray, FIB, EMMI, OBIRCH, electrical bench testing, micro-probing).
Drive the systematic application of problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys) to identify true root causes and propose effective corrective and preventive actions.
Collaborate extensively with cross-functional teams, including Design, Product, Test, Process, Quality, and Reliability Engineering, to communicate findings, drive solutions, and support product improvements.
Prepare and review comprehensive failure analysis reports, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and actionable recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
Manage and maintain the FA laboratory equipment, ensuring calibration, proper operation, and adherence to safety protocols.
Stay current with the latest failure analysis techniques, tools, and industry trends, evaluating and recommending new technologies for the FA lab.
Contribute to the development of design-for-reliability and design-for-testability guidelines based on failure analysis insights.
What You Will Bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field. A Master's degree or Ph.D. is a significant plus.
A minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive experience in semiconductor failure analysis, with demonstrated leadership responsibilities.
In-depth expertise in a wide array of non-destructive and destructive failure analysis techniques and equipment used for semiconductor devices.
Strong understanding of semiconductor device physics, integrated circuit design, manufacturing processes (wafer fabrication, assembly, test), and common failure mechanisms.
Proven experience in leading complex root cause investigations and driving effective corrective actions.
Proficiency in interpreting electrical schematics, ATE datalogs, and characterization data.
Excellent leadership, communication (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, capable of translating complex technical issues into clear and concise explanations.
Experience in mentoring and developing junior engineers.
