Collins Aerospace’s Global Engineering & Technology Center in Puerto Rico (GETC-PR) is seeking a technically experienced Principal Systems Engineer to join our team in support of MASC (Modeling, Analysis, Simulation & Control) team. This role requires a strong, passionate problem-solver engineer with an action-oriented, collaborative mindset who strives to exceed expectations. The successful candidate will thrive in a cross-disciplinary team environment, tackling challenges focusing on Controls and Modeling activities.

This position will sit at our Aguadilla, PR location. You must be residing in Puerto Rico at the time of starting employment. Relocation is not offered.

This role is categorized as hybrid, with 3 days onsite and 2 days remote following the schedule assigned by the Manager.

What You Will Do:

  • Participate in the development and implementation of model-based solutions to support trade studies and performance simulations and ensure they meet defined requirements and functions.

  • Contribute your knowledge of performance engineering practices and procedures to evaluate work across a wide range of intriguing computational problems.

  • Contribute and collaborate in a team environment receiving input from the customer, program, or subject matter experts and contribute your knowledge to advance the discussions. The projects will be varied and your knowledge across the breath of models and simulations will contribute to developing the most effective approaches and solutions.

  • Evaluate end-to-end system needs to understand system requirements across the kill-chain.

  • Analyze data to understand performance requirements.

  • Develop metrics to validate proposed architectures against requirements as well as help shape future tech growth.

  • Serve as a recognized subject-matter expert within the Controls and Modeling discipline.

  • Participate in global and cross-discipline integrated product teams, providing recommendations and solutions to meet technical, weight, and cost targets.

  • Utilize advanced technical knowledge and project management skills for project planning, budget management, and methodology development to ensure project completion on time and within budget.

  • Document analysis results and recommendations in formal reports and presentations for management and customers.

  • Support technology development in military programs working effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team on internally and externally funded development projects.

  • Provide coaching, review work, and delegate tasks to junior engineers and lower-level professionals.

  • Identify new strategies and/or modify current policies, practices and procedures and influences others.

  • Prepare and communicate business plans, high quality technical reports and presentations.

  • Travel up to 20% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit.

  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications you must have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.

  • Demonstrated professional experience communicating in English (verbal and written).

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience modeling and/or simulating physical systems.

  • Experience in data analysis and/or statistics

  • Post-graduate and/or industrial experience in automotive and/or aerospace industry

  • Ability to work independently and work with limited direction to accomplish project goals

  • Willingness to take initiative, support, contribute to results and take ownership of assigned projects/initiatives

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, leadership skills

  • M.S. / Ph.D. in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace engineering with a specialty in Dynamics and Controls.

  • More than 3 years of industrial Research and Development (R&D) experience in Dynamics and Controls

  • 5+ years of R&D experience for applicants with MS degree

  • Familiarity with engineering software including Matlab/Simulink. Preferred to have familiarity with C++, Python, and/or NI LabView

  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink/Simscape

  • Experience with real-time implementation using Speedgoat, dSpace, NI in the Hardware-In-the-Loop testing

  • Experience with embedded software

  • Knowledge of the system engineering life-cycle model and tools such as DOORS and CAMEO.
