About the role

In the role of Senior Software Engineer, you will report to the Director of Engineering - Playback Engineering.

As a Software Engineer on our Playback Telemetry and Observability team, you will actively contribute to the Playback Quality of Experience (QoE) for our fans. This role involves ensuring data consistency across all platforms, allowing for accurate comparisons of playback performance. You'll be responsible for identifying and prioritizing key QoE metrics, with a strong focus on Near Real-Time Metrics, to provide immediate insight into the fan experience. A core part of the job will be improving data ingestion and access pipelines and enhancing alerting and monitoring capabilities to proactively address issues. You will collaborate across platforms, contributing to greater efficiency and intelligence within the Playback Engineering organization.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Define, prioritize, and ensure the consistent, platform-agnostic implementation of key QoE metrics.
  • Drive efforts to monitor and improve the real-time playback experience for fans,
  • Enhance the ingestion, processing, and access of playback telemetry data to improve system reliability and data accessibility.
  • Strengthen alerting, monitoring, and debugging capabilities to proactively detect and rapidly resolve playback performance issues.
  • Create and maintain internal data dashboards that offer easy access to data and support advanced analysis that current third-party tools cannot provide
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify pain points in observability and deliver scalable, reusable solutions
  • Advocate for best practices in automation, tooling, and infrastructure across the organization
  • Maintain high coding standards and follow best practices in development, contributing to a culture of engineering excellence within the team.
  • Participate in design and code reviews, providing feedback to ensure high-quality product delivery and alignment with architectural strategies across the team.
  • Support a culture of operational excellence by focusing on efficient and maintainable engineering practices in your day-to-day work.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and development technologies by researching and comparing new tools and frameworks to help keep our video platform competitive.

About You

  • You are passionate about development and the streaming space, with 8+ years of industry experience.
  • You have familiarity with multimedia frameworks and protocols like MPEG-DASH, HLS, and video streaming technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin).
  • You have worked closely with product and program management to support technology roadmaps and project goals.
  • You can demonstrate experience collaborating with senior engineers and team leads to drive initiatives.
  • Experience building automated monitoring dashboards.
  • Familiarity with real-time alerting systems.
  • Proficiency in observability or monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of video playback technologies is nice to have, but not required.
