About this opportunity 

You’ll be part of Core Banking in our Consumer Relationships Platform working in the Next Generation Core lab. The lab is focussed on building the new core banking platform that will support servicing our customers through multiple channels and will enable the bank to create new innovative products for our customers using our ground breaking cloud-based technology platform.

What you’ll be doing:    

  • Actively contribute to the codebase while collaborating with architects and cross-functional teams to design scalable software solutions. 

  • Build strong relationships and support team development through mentoring and coaching, with a focus on collective success. 

  • Develop a deep understanding of the business domain and processes to effectively translate user needs into stories and technical tasks. 

  • Drive efficient breakdowns of work, ensuring non-functional requirements like security and performance are well considered. 

  • Partner with the Engineering Lead and other teams to enhance ways of working across the lab by proposing and testing innovative approaches. 

 

What you’ll need: 

  • Strong expertise in Object-Oriented Design and back-end development, ideally with deep knowledge of Java. 

  • Solid understanding of software fundamentals such as threading, memory management, debugging, and clean coding practices. 

  • Proven ability to lead and communicate effectively, promote agile ways of working, and mentor others. 

  • Experience in application and solution design, with a focus on managing technical debt and delivering high-quality engineering outcomes. 

  • Comfort in both technical and business conversations, with a delivery-focused mindset. 

 

Nice to Have 

  • Experience with Test-Driven Development and test automation 

  • Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (Strategic and Tactical) 

  • Knowledge of Microservices, Spring Boot, Apache Kafka 

  • Exposure to Docker and Kubernetes for containerized development and deployment
